Kymco like 50cc start problems. I thought is was fixed?
« on: August 30, 2022, 04:28:21 PM »
2017 kymco like 50, bought recently. Changed spark plug and fuel filter early on. After o couple of weeks standing still it wouldn't start. The fuel suction valve was ok, spark ok, battery ok. So I took out the carb and cleaned it. Didn't look nasty at all. Still wouldn't start when I put the carb back. However with stater gas after a couple of tries it ran irregularly but without turning off. It was unused for another week and needed starter gas again. Used it more regularly after that. Initially it was crazy slow on acceleration frön standing still and upp hill. After a couple of weeks of regular use it was running fine..

Now to what my problem is.. I didn't use it over the weekend and it won't start again.. What's wrong do you think? Still the carb that's dirty? Old fuel in the tank? New fuel filter too big?

Ok now I have the same start problem more regularly. Prefilling the fuel filter doesn't seem to be part of the causative issue since it happens more than once a day. That is j need to use starter fluid several timmes and pump the gas for it to idle or be able to restart without assitance. After that it is running OK. I'm wondering if it still is the carburetor.

The moped has a suction valve for the tank that gets it suction (top of t connection) from the intake manifold (side of t connection) that seems to be working at least when the motor is running. Also I can feel the suction on the tip of my finger. However haven't tested th suction from the last bottom of t connection that goes forward from the motor compartment.

Any tips beyond cleaning the carb/floater/jets?

@Gubbmoppe,  welcome here.

Am not really in LIKE 50is but would start with:
-bystarter on your carburator ( function)
- if your fuel pump is a diaphragm type, check for leaks in the tubing
-even if you cleaned your carb, there can be still a jet be clogged, once again out the carb and into ultrasound cleaner ( all jets out)
-check all ignition cables, ignition coil, sparkplug cap

-IF all this fails:
Take a plastic bottle and feed your carb directely, so you see whether your fuel delivery is faulty.

Pls give a feedback.
Happy and safe scootering, Ruffus
