X-Town 300i - Belt Replacement
« on: August 03, 2022, 03:20:00 PM »
The manual suggests changing the belt at 10K miles.  That's within sight for me now and I wonder if any other owners have reached this milestone yet and what they found when changing the belt?
Regards & ride safe,

@Neil, I repaired during last four years around 25 scooters, mostly KYMCO.
All of them had between 18000 and 60000 kms on the clock.
Neither I nor the owners did have any "belt-problem" on this scoots.
None of the scoots were one-owner pieces, so noone really knew whether the belt was changed or not.
The old saying comes up, "better save than sorry" and change this €50-100,- part.
Happy and safe scootering, Ruffus

I figured the belt on my PCX would need replacing after 7000 miles, many of them hard miles with a passenger, but nope it still looked brand new.    I recommend taking off the cover and giving it a look see.

My modern generation 155cc Piaggio scooter stipulates a belt change at 6,000 miles.
At $43, I did as recommended.
I can easily think of a few places in city traffic along my riding route where a belt snapping could be very dangerous.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Ruffus & Stig thanks, like you I fall into the “better safe than sorry” camp so it will be replaced at 10K.

Dave, I’ve heard a lot of folks say that, but others who mention the stresses & strains which cause damage not apparent to the naked eye? So, all told, I think I’ll err on the side of caution!

With over 400,000 miles rubber band drive scooters and 11 new ones---I change at 15,000 miles with OEM belt and have had only one belt break underway====Helix....and their belt could be changed by only removing cover and squeezing rear clutch...nice design!! I always carry spare belt, as dealers usually do not have them in stock..   XTown I changed at 15,000 miles as I recall.   Don't ride a lot, rubber parts still age from just sitting.

Being penny wise/pound foolish, I replaced the belt on my GV 250 with a Chinese product and it snapped at 1000 miles.

Wouldn't surprise me if they aren't all made in China....but like New Jersey....there are the good neighborhoods....and the sketchy ones.🙃

They aren't. And the OEM belts are made by Bando. The cheap belts people keep buying and snapping that say Bando aren't Bando belts.
