Any Interest In Longer/Wider Passenger Pegs?
« on: November 17, 2010, 02:50:07 AM »
When my wide rides with me, she needs to spread her knees wide enough to clear my rear end. Fine, except she then needs to angle her calves in to reach the footpegs.

I'm taking a footpeg into a machine shop to see if they can make a longer version of it; I'm thinking of a version 2x longer. Near as I can tell, when the footpeg is retracted, the longer peg really doesn't show.

I'm expecting that once I pay for the designing, the cost of getting additional copies made be will fairly inexpensive, i.e., well under $100 for a pair. I'm hoping to have an answer by the end of next week in terms of cost and design options.

Watch this space for announcements!

In good news for the economy every one of the six machine shops I've contacted is too busy to take the job. So good news for the country, not so good for everyone else.

No worries. I've only contacted traditional machine shops. With the confidence that comes from ignorance, I believe motorcycle-specific shops can do it without a problem.

But in all seriousness, this really does bode well for the continued economic recovery. Waayyy more important than footpegs!  ;D

Yes, I suppose that's true. I was looking forward to seeing what you came up with, though.

I pick up the peg from the dealership tomorrow (Friday). There's an area not too far from my home with several machine shops within a few miles of each other. I'll see if I get any different results walking in.

If they're not too expensive, i.e. under $20 per peg, I may get two or three sets of different lengths to try out.

Sounds like a good plan. I hope you have better luck walking in then.

If you continue to strike out at welding shops consider drilling, tapping and bolting on an extension. You'd have to grind off the little lip that curls up but I think you could do nicely with a little bit of diamond plate.
