NSR: There but for fortune....
« on: November 05, 2022, 06:13:47 PM »

Daughter asked what I was thinking about, this morning, downtown.
"There but for fortune...."* I said, nodding towards the county jail across the way.

"The county jail?"
"Yep. Many mornings I stopped at that light over there on my scooters, on the way to work, glanced up to those windows, and thought about how lucky I was not to have gone that way, for whatever reason."
She and her school (Emannuel Christian Academy) had done some mission work over there a few years ago.
"The mistakes some people make", she said.

* I know my daughter has not heard the Joan Baez song, or of Phil Ochs - the Texan who wrote Joan's hit single.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.
