Got the oil changed, hand car washed and purchased a new key/fob from the dealer, who matched it exactly to the last 8 figures of the VIN.
Fob - $130 , key laser cut $25.
Dealer price for programming $120>$150 according to the parts dept.
Parts guy said, "YouTube can be your friend...."

It was , and it turned out to be quite simple to program the new key. Took about 5 mins!
I figured this is either going to work - or really screw things up. Who knows what is going on in the electrics after a car sits with a dead battery for a couple of years?
Using the VIN, discovered that the car is a 2015, not a 2016 as MIL stated.
FIL was a very particular fellow with his machines - the Michelins look brand new.
Some might remember that he ordered me to take his Silverado - when I decided to work commute on my LIKE200i...."Keep it and at least drive it on snowy days!, dammit!"

From his bed in the final days he wrote a note that his car goes to his oldest daughter - my wife, or to our daughter.
MIL 96 yr old hasn't driven in decades.
I'm her Uber now.
