Missed diagnostics/repair everywhere!
« on: November 14, 2022, 08:02:15 PM »
The only thing missing is a picture of his Avalanche on the tilt-bed tow truck...

Few months back I took my Avalanche to Jack Burford Chevrolet in Richmond for an electrical issue. They called me told me my ecm was bad. I went back and forth with them. I knew it wasn’t the issue. He assured me his mechanics was ase certified, knew what they were doing. $1200 later my truck still didn’t run.
Took my Avalanche to Jamie in Lexington (who is currently a “back yard mechanic”) and I assure you one of the best mechanics I have ever dealt with. Dropped my truck off late afternoon, next afternoon my truck was running. Cost me a fraction of what  Jack Burford charged me.

Moral of the story… Those big names mean absolutely nothing.. Trust the small guy..

...or maybe the loonies on a forum...

dealerships are training grounds for inexperienced mechanics, always best to find someone on his own and sold his soul to the Snap-On man

A lesson there for us all Karl.  Glad it’s finally fixed and running, which is more than I can say for the wife’s Landy!…
Regards & ride safe,

I had to let our beloved 91 Vanagon GL go after 20 yrs of fine ownership - when the owner of my local VW shop, The Bug Hut, decided to retire.
The mech's at the local VW dealer just weren't familiar enough with this rare beast.
Our '89 Jetta GL was next to go, for the same reason - lost the BH.
I'd drop both at the BH, walk a couple of blocks to work - pick it up after work and drive it home. More than once I' d pick it up and Skip would tell me, "Nah, two of the things on your list you didn't need. Not for another year or two."
BTW: highly recommend www.thesamba.com as a site to quickly find VW buyers, nationally!
Both cars sold quickly there to genuine enthusiasts.
I'd come home and find them lined up in my driveway!
I put a price "$____.__ OBO" and sold both for more than that $_____.__ starting price, because it wasn't the best offer!

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.
