Good write-up and pics.  May sound a bit much, in that I split the old tire while it's on the rim, n the middle of the tread, all the way around. Makes it super easy to get off the rim.

I considered cutting up the tire but I've tried to cut tire rubber before and it wasn't all that easy. But that would make the tire less of a mosquito breeding tub if I threw it out in the back yard.
I haven't figured out what I'll do with the old tire yet. I know the dealer or other mc shop would take it for a small charge. Or maybe this one I'll hang as a swing for the grand kids... after drilling a few holes in it to prevent it from holding water.

I agree cutting the tire is tough and don't recommend it if one doesn't take extra care to prevent injury.
