Kymco 2015 Agility 50 dies when going beyond 5 miles an hour
« on: December 23, 2022, 10:11:02 PM »
I have a Kymco 2015 Agility 50 dies when going beyond 5 miles an hour.  I had just replaced the battery in it because it wasn't starting at all but now it dies when I try to go beyond  5 miles an hour.  Is there an idle adjustment I need to make?  Any ideas on how to fix this?

can you give us any additional background on the scoot? How many miles? Any other issues?  You just replaced the battery due to a non starting issue, I assume the new battery fixed that problem? Has the scoot been sitting for a long time? Old gas? dirty carb?

Does it start up easily now? can you give it some revs while it's on the center stand...will it rev up and spin the back tire or does it die?

Yes, we need more information.
So, running fine for the past 7 years, then battery died one week and you put new battery in and next day it dies after 5mph.
Yes?
No?
Explain please.

I got it used about maybe a few years ago and I THINK the odometer broken so I don't know how many miles it has.

It starts easily now.  It doesn't rev much.

The speedometer is broken so I can't see exactly how fast I'm going but it seems like I can't go over 10 miles an hour.  To me it seems that if I try to put on the gas to go beyond a certain slow point the engine dies every time.

I spoke to a guy that works on scooters and he said that if I turned the key to the on position and I squeeze the brake handle and the break light doesn't come on it's a bad starter solenoid but this is NOT the case because the break light DOES come on.

This has been a pretty good scooter up to this point.

I'm copying the vehicle registration information from when I bought it about the scoot and pasting it below:

Vehicle Identification Number: LC2U6A026FC001424 Year/Make: 2015 KWANG YANG

@netsurfer802B, welcome here too!
BTW, Merry Christmas to all of you.

First let us clear: 2 stroke/4stroke?

-if it starts without hassle easily, ignition and valves (4stroke) might be in order
-so I would supect your carburator or more precisely
-your throttle cable (stretched or loose in its terminal) and attached items
(goes for both 2 and 4stroke)
-if this pieces are in good order, go further to check for a clogged fuelfilter, fuelline, etc.
-all fine in this are?
-let's see in what condition your carb is?
-take the underbowl off, rinse, pressure air all openings, try not to jam even more.
Let us know how it goes.

I would take this guys advice with caution!

.....I spoke to a guy that works on scooters and he said that if I turned the key to the on position and I squeeze the brake handle and the break light doesn't come on it's a bad starter solenoid but this is NOT the ......

I probably sound like a broken record...but if a carbureted scooter starts easily but dies when given throttle..it's quite likely a clogged pilot jet. As Ruffus said, pull the carb, remove the bowl and remove and clean the jets (pilot and main). Lots of videos on youtube showing exactly how to do this.

Thanks I appreciate it all.

How do I remove the carb?  Are there instructions on how to remove the 2015 Kymco Agility motorscooter carb?  I've looked online to no avail.

Thanks again.

Do a youtube search for scooter carb removal or GY6 carb removal. Our Kymco carbs and motors are similar to the millions of other scooter motors and carbs out there.

Typically you’ll remove the band clamp from the airbox side and the clamp from the intake side. For a basic clean you can then leave the throttle cable and fuel lines attached, just flip the carb over, unscrew the 4 screws holding the bowl on and unscrew the main and pilot jets to clean them with carb cleaner, a fine strand of wire and compressed air.

Lots of youtube videos detailing a scooter carb clean or GY6 carb clean. Ours are CV (constant velocity) carbs, as opposed to the other type, a slide carb.

and sometimes it's just easier to buy a new pilot jet rather than trying to clean it...or get a new one and keep the original as a clean spare.

#35 Keihin pilot is what your scoot uses..link attached to a good place to get them. It says for Honda Helix but it's the same one for my People s200 and I'd assume for your scoot.

@netsurfer802B, before you remove, take off or dissamble anything, take pictures how it was before you treated it.
To get a picture how the situation down there is, check how much way your throttle cable does on your carb.
-should be about 25mm from idle to full open
-airfilterbox off, all inducts open, no rodents in?
-carburator, pls check GY6 carbs cleaning
-intake manifold between carb and cylhead without cracks?
Your bystarter could be the culprit too, but we'll see.
Share some pics with us, to see clear.

I hope not.  I didn't see any when I opened up the carb. and sprayed carb. cleaner in it.

I ran the scooter about 5-10 miles an hour after I did that ...when I tried to accelerate all the way it kept making a slow reving up and then down noise but didn't die.  If I had the handle turned to run it at low speed it doen't do this...if this all means anything.

I'm still having trouble completely understanding what's going on. Is there any way you can post a short video of it starting and running? Put it on the centerstand and start it up and rev it up and down a few times?

(and you said you sprayed carb cleaner in the carb..did you remove and clean the jets?)

I order a new carb for about $20.  I'll see what happens when I replace the old one.  It's just not going faster than about 10 miles an hour.  Not really dying on me any more.

One more far shot of mine:
-if you push the scoot (motor off), do you feel any resistance (as your brakes being pulled)?
-riding the scooter for a little while, if you touch the CVTs rear part, is it very hot?
A) maybe brakes blocked..
B) clutch engages somehow and blocks too..
