Downtown 300i valve check at 3000 miles
« on: September 12, 2022, 12:15:08 AM »
It has been a while on this forum since a post for valve clearance.  I have only had the Downtown 300i for 5 weeks, and did not know it's maintenance history. I am especially pleased at how easy the clearance check is for the Downtown 300. No bleeding knuckles, or cursing 🤬. You can even see the marks on the timing chain gear through the vent slots on the side plastic to verify the TDC.
I did find that the valve clearance on all the valves needing adjustment. The intakes were down to about 0.05 mm and the exhaust were down to about 0.06 mm. This may be normal for what is essentially a "wearing in engine". But I will make sure to check the valves again at 6000 miles.

Pretty tight considering they should be .1 mm in and out.

I made valve check @ 29000 km - with prevoius service record of this check @ 10000 km. Clearance was too tight - I was barely able to put 0.1 mm feeler gauge using quite some force. Readjusted the clearance - I was surprised how good valve's access is on DT 300i.

Easier to check the valves than remove the rear tire, not that it was a big deal, but you do need to remove the right rear shock to get the wheel off.
