KYMCO AK550 windshield rubber grommets
« on: February 11, 2023, 11:11:30 PM »
One of the rubber grommets on my windshield needs to be replaced. KYMCO sent me new grommets. The grommet will go in the hole but I cannot get the brass insert into the rubber grommet. The two holes on the top of the windshield are smaller but the rubber washers are all the same size. If I put the brass insert into the grommet first then try to insert the whole thing into the hole of the windshield pushing the edges a little at a time, it doesn't work. Tried soap as a lubricant, didn't work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Depending where you live maybe wait until it gets warmer out?

Are you absolutely certain the grommet is inserted all the way?

Too cold here to want to attempt to remove mine to see what's going on there. I'll ride in the cold but I won't mess with the plastics if I can avoid it.

Have you tried putting the rubber grommets in first then the brass spacer after? This works for the Downtown. The brass can also be forced in by putting the windshield bolt through the brass spacer then tightening the bolt.

Forcing the brass insert thru the rubber grommet I thought was a good idea except the bolt wasn't long enough. I couldn't reach the threads. I'm going to get a longer bolt, force the brass insert into the rubber grommet then go back to the original bolt. Thanks for the idea.
