Ever had this problem?...
« on: February 07, 2023, 02:37:27 PM »
I belong to a few UK biking fb forums (fora?) and a question on one for over 60's* had me wondering, as the OP asked if anyone had been turned away by a B&B or Hotel because they were on a 'bike.  Going on to ask if there was a biker friendly accommodation App!

My response was:  Given the forum we're on here, I suspect you could rock up anywhere with vacancies and not get turned away! Even before I was a greybeard, I have NEVER, in the UK or mainland Europe ever been refused accommodation because I was on a 'bike. Not sure if there's an App, and yes there are (a few) specialist establishments where bikers are the target demographic, but anywhere these days will, I am sure, be glad of the custom.

Question.  Have any of you guys ever experienced a turn back?

No, never been turned away from any place just because I was riding a bike. Took my wife to a B&B many years ago on my Gold Wing and they were very welcoming to us. I generally stay at Army Corps of Engineer campgrounds when traveling and they welcome anyone riding a bike. I've stayed at several KOA Campgrounds which also welcome bike riders. When I bought my current AK 550 I rode it home over 400 miles from the dealer and stopped half way at a motel that was welcoming to me as much as anyone. I did that since I had left the dealer so late in the day and didn't want to go all that far in the dark on a brand new bike while trying to keep to moderate riding for the break-in.

Over here (USA) there is an app that is geared for finding motorcycle friendly accommodations. I don't use it but I know several riders who do. There are also several campgrounds and motel/resort/camping places that cater specifically to motorcycle riders.

Wife and I stayed at a few places in N. England while riding our Honda.
Never had a problem getting into any place with that cute 18 yr old SoCal blond on my arm, bike or no bike!
Even her hair looked good when she pulled her Bell off!

But - in those days - her 19 yr old husband wasn't smart enough to get her out of her short-shorts or her "dressy" mini-culottes to get properly geared-up. Fortunately - we never came close to going down that I remember.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Well, when I think about it...proper riding gear in those days was jeans and leather jackets. Maybe leather gloves.
Now, remembering Honda's Nicest People print adverts...try getting a young lady out on a white Honda in all that leather on a hot summer day.
Unless you're looking to knock over some gas stations  - she's not going to cooperate 🙂
(I see gals her age riding all over Florida in shorts)

True. And admit it, we’ve all done it at some time, hopefully without incident.
