9800 on the rear Michelin Power Pures - LIKE200i
« on: March 24, 2023, 07:45:05 PM »
Happened to check my LIKE's service pages and discovered that my rear Michelin Power Pure tire is not as new as I imagined.

back from the Vespa dealer - look at that beauty! March 2017

Same tire, today -  6 years and 9,800 miles later!

0 issues with the side wall.
Called the local mega store dealer (where I bought my LIKE in 2013) $107 to do the tire swap on the scooter
(1 hour shop labor) - $102 for a new Michelin City Grip 2. Must buy tire there (this is a new policy - and I don't blame them)

I'm leaning towards handing them the scooter and a new exhaust gasket and having them do the work.
When I had 440 miles on the scooter I had them swap out both scary Kendas for my pair of new City Grips. (paid @ $110 for the pair of tires, @ $135 for the installation on my scooter. They did a fine job)

that wheel off day, my first ever!

did let me get in there and clean the back of the motor, clean and paint the muffler, get a new bearing installed at the Vespa dealer who did the tire swap ($35). Biggest headache was the rear fender (tire hugger!)

I have a power pure on the front of my Like 150 and it is holding up well.  I wanted a City Grip but it wasn't available in the correct size.

Nice new kicks Stig. I am installing my new Duro tires on Monday. Where I live only motorcycle dealer that I contacted wanted $50.00 to install one tire if I provided them and 25.00 to install both if I purchaced them myself. I did it myself last time and saved a fortune. For two Duro tires it cost me about $110 Dollars Plus I had to get new tire rim shields plus some Dyna Beads. One thing that I am going to do different from last time is heat the new tires up for an easy installation, something that I did not do last time.

I plan on doing a smoky burnout with my old tires; I will share the video with everyone.

9,800 on a rear CG?!  In my dreams! Best I’ve managed is 5,000. But then my average speeds are probably a tad higher than yours and road surfaces here are notoriously poor.  Looks like you could have breached the 10k mark easily on that boot Stig?

This is a Michelin Power Pure with the 9800 miles - now that City Grip 2 are available again, - will probably go with that.
Here is what Michelin said about them....

The world's first dual-compound scooter tire. Center tread compound is formulated for durability for longer tread life while the shoulder tread compound is formulated for greater adhesion to the road in wet or dry conditions.

Features:
Smooth area in the center of the contact patch resists wear
Tread design is inspired by racing rain tires
Optimized tread design helps maintain consistent profile over the life of the tire

Was thinking a lot about that tire today in mile after mile of very heavy rain! Only a touch of tread remaining before the wear indicator comes flush.

Close on 1mm left?  Yes, you're right to change it out.  Be interested in your report back on the CG2, I think they're a terrific tyre!

You know, I forgot - there's a plug in there somewhere. Been in there for years. going down my first mile out from home. Back home plugged it with one of those mushroom plug kits. Used it on the road with the Liberty's front tire. Never leaked.
I like the kit!

It's never leaked.

I’ve used them successfully too.  Never leave home without the kit!
