Oil change question

Do you need to clean oil screen every time you do an oil change? It seems like its is not necessary at every change. this is for a 150x.

I don't have a 150 anymore, and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, so take it for what it's worth.

Every time I have ever done an oil-change, on the 150, and on the 400 I have now, I have cleaned the screens. I think it's better to be safe than sorry.

YMMV.
Two things to consider...
1) The early bird might get the worm, but the second mouse always gets the cheese.
2) Eagles may soar, but weasels never get sucked into jet engines.

I checked it on the first bikes for a while and never found anything so spaced it to about every third change and still never saw anything in the screen. I would check it on a new bike right away to see if they left any shavings but then space it out. I would definitely check it before I bought a used machine as part of a PDI.

Now you have two different approaches to the same thing! You can decide!

Have read several places that this soft metal cap can be stuck on there so tight that the hex fitting is nearly destroyed while trying to get it off.
For this reason I bought a spare , commonly found on ebay, just in case it starts showing wear.  The cap, 0 ring, spring and screen come in a kit for less than $10.
I'm careful not to overtighten that cap.

Although i'm still not opening that screen every oil change. In 10 yrs I've never found anything in there.

I also have not found much of any particles in my oil changes. I do the screen just to drain it a bit more, and that's not really a big deal.  The new engines are really built well, and the new oil additives are better.  All my vehicles I think will outlive me.

And where did that screen cap come from? Ol' Honda took it from their motorcycle engines..it's the cap you remove to adjust the valves on the old motors. Pull it from the parts bin for the GY6 motors and others that followed.

Not on my Kymco Downtown.  It's small and would never work as an access to valve adjustment.

The cap for the oil filter element may be a bit larger than the Honda valve rocker access BUT the screen cap on the Like and Agility is about the right size to be covering the valve adjusters on my 1960 Honda 250 Hawk!

The screen hex on the DT300i is a plastic 17 mm thingy thats nearly identical to the metal screen thingy in a $30,000.00 Continantal light aircraft engine!

The OP is asking about a 150cc engine, the GY6 derivative. That's what I was referencing. Not the newer, larger motors. (Although my 250cc Helix uses the same cap..but it dates from '86 or older)
