I have an 09 Agility 125 that I recently bought new with only 4km miles. I now have almost 300km on it. In the manual it says to keep the engine under 35mph for the first 1000km. How important is this?  The main road that goes to the town I work in is a 45mph stretch, and 'im wondering if it is ok to drive it at 45mph, or if it will be bad for the engine?

there are 2 streams of motor break in..

but if its running hot, do with him where ever u want....

500km its really ok time to do it wright.

just watch oil level...

I would change the oil (right now) and ride it "normally" from that point.

I wouldn't keep the bike at it's top speed for prolonged periods of time, and/or accelerate hard when the engine
is cold, but those are general rules, nothing to do with break-in.

Just make sure you don't keep the engine at the same speed for longer periods when breaking it in.
If you're commuting on it or riding outside of the town.. might wanna run it at 45mph for a few minutes,
then 50 for a few minutes etc, but I wouldn't be bothered much by that after it's first 100km and an oil
change.

12.000km on mine - no issues.
9.000 of which are mine.
9.000 of which are in the last 7 months.  ;)

It's absolutely maddening to ride it super slow at break-in speed. I did so most of the time, but when traffic demanded, I picked it up a little. I don't think 45 mph at times will hurt anything, at least it didn't for me.

my advice is to ride it normally at speeds up to 45mph (actual) its first 300km, then ride it normally, period. you don't have to baby these engines too much during break in, in my estimation. the owners manual also calls for an oil change at 300km. my dealer said it didn't need one then, and it didn't have one. didn't seem to hurt anything. but i also think my dealer rides the scoots around for several miles, then changes the oil before sale

i have around 760 miles on mine now and have rode it normally from 300km's on. as another posted, i do not maintain one speed for too long, however. and i don't go WOT for extended periods. i let it warm up well before i get going (when you hear the idle drop you're good to go) and take it easy for the first several minutes. then i ride it like i stole it. just had its first service and its all good

don't jump on the throttle from a dead stop, no extended cruising at one speed, vary the rpms while riding, and no extended WOT for the first 2000km's or so

manufacturer suggestions for max speed at break in is very conservative and outdated. just ride it as you need to at any given time, but bring it back down if you really have to hustle down the road sometimes

Unless you're a drag racer, and are trying to shave seconds off your quarter mile times, I don't think it matters much to the average street rider how you break it in, as long as you don't blow it up in the process.
