sad day, my People S200 is sold
« on: July 20, 2023, 09:59:10 PM »
as the title says, it's a sad day. My 2010 Kymco People S200 found a new home and was driven away today in the back of a truck.

This scoot got me back on 2 wheels 8 years ago and has been an outstanding vehicle. Fun, fast and reliable. I'd originally intended on keeping it 'forever'....but my eyes wandered to the pretty, red Honda Nighthawk. 3 bikes is my self imposed (and wife imposed?) limit...so one had to go.  As Klav and Neil discussed in another thread - 1000 miles per year is the minimum riding mileage to keep a bike - and the most I ever put on the scoot was 577 in a year.

I bought it for $1300 USD in 2015 and sold it today for $1200 USD. Not bad for 8 years. I could have held out for closer to my $1500 asking price but I'd rather not deal with the people on Facebook Marketplace. Take the money and run!

I'm not going anywhere, as this is still my favorite scoot/bike forumn.  I just won't currently own a Kymco. Not ruling one out in the future!

Attached is last pic I took of my scoot, today, and the scoot in the back of the truck before the new owner drove off with it. Good bye my sweet, sweet Kymco...I will always love you... 8)

Somebody got a heck of a clean, well serviced scooter!
And, ummm  - Hawk....scooters tend to gather more miles when they are .....assembled :)

With that 1000 mile-or-out! rule - I bet your 2 Hondas are hugging one-another when they see you coming with your toolbox!

Anyway - you gave that Kymco a great run!
You're part of the fabric here - do hope you stick around!

it would take more than selling my Kymco to get rid of me! This is still my first online visit each morning..

Current pic of Nighthawk..in the usual state of parts off and spread around it..strange, flooded battery that makes bubbling noises and leaks nasty acid out of a vent hose, K&N air filter drying after cleaning and before oiling..side covers off, airbox wiped out of oil...puke tube opened and to my surprise liquid goo came out of it like a faucet was turned on, quite the mess!

Have almost all my parts here..fork and dust seals, fork c clips, brake master new rubber diaphragm and plastic piece that fits on top of diaphragm, brake master rebuild kit, clutch master rebuild kit plus new diaphragm and new plastic diaphragm cover, 4 new screws for the 2 master covers, clutch slave cylinder rebuild kit, oil filter spring and washer (that were missing!), valve cover gasket, still waiting on 4 fork bushings and some crush washers...will also likely need caliper rebuild kits..haven't pulled those apart, yet, but front brake lever only depresses about 1/2 inch...but when I crack brake caliper bleeder it depresses fully..(caliper pistons siezed??)

need to pull back wheel off to clean squeaky rear drum and lube pivot point...compound and polish painted parts, determine what i'm going to do with the clear coated aluminum parts (forks, rear sets, rear grab handle and trim) that the clear has failed and the aluminum has some roughness / corrosion...still need tires and new battery...and front brake pads as old ones are soaked with fork oil...

and I have to get used to that d*mn petcock! Twice now I've started the bike, let it idle for a few minutes, only to have it die.. and I drained the battery trying to restart it, only to realize later the petcock was turned off!

and....all this work puts me in my happy place!!

and replace plugs, maybe boots and wires, the 4 little rubber, half round gasket things under the valve cover, lube throttle cables, new grips, lube speedo, clean carbs, maybe rebuild, probably sync them, degrease the underside of motor, strip and repaint center stand...maybe new rubbers for the 2 front, slightly sagging turn signals, new front brake lines at some point....and the list goes on.. ;)
