old brake hose observations
« on: September 13, 2023, 03:00:46 PM »
I removed the old, original brake hoses from my bike to replace with new, stainless Galfer lines. A couple things surprised me...the first was the manufacture date stamped on the hoses, 5/83. 40 years ago? Wow.

The other was the makeup of the hose. I assumed they were all rubber but they are multi layered. A rubber outer cover, woven fabric inner layers and a reinforced rubber inner core. The internal diameter is smaller than what I would have thought, too.

Interesting to see them cut and opened up.

Yeah - that inner is 'braided' ....makes a very good line!
The LIKE200i has braided brake lines - I've always thought that is the reason it has such powerful and easy to modulate brakes!
Both its front and rear brakes put my Liberty's to shame. (of course the Liberty rear is a drum - but the front is weak, too - even though it is ABS)
Kymco didn't skimp on the lines - over there in China!

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Haven't bothered with braided lines since my old Kawa ZXR750 back in the late 80's, haven't felt the need!
