Kymco Spade Oil Filter Maintenance
« on: October 17, 2023, 02:45:00 AM »
I just got a 2019 Kymco Spade. Only 700 miles on it but not sure if previous owner ever changed the oil. So I’m going to do an oil change and would like to clean or replace the oil filter.

Does anyone have info on the Spade’s oil filter? The owner’s manual says it should be “Cleaned” every couple thousand miles, but not replaced (see attached photo). Does that mean it’s one of those reusable filters that needs to be removed, cleaned out with a solvent, and reinstalled? Or should I just replace it?

Also, does anyone know where the heck it’s located on the bike?? I’m used to those just having a cap with one central hex head to unscrew. But can’t see anything like that. Closest guess I have is a part near the drain screen, but it has 3 bolts on it…

Good guess, open this three M6 bolts, take filter out, new one in. Don't overtorque!!

Sounds like the three bolt cap on a Yager which had a replaceable filter element behind.
Many of the Kymco books are wrong...

Awesome. I’ll try it out this weekend and post an update after. Really curious to see if there’s some sort of reusable filter inside, or if it’s just a regular filter and the manual is wrong about not needing to replace it. Will probably replace regardless of what I find in there.

Thanks guys.

No, behind this 3bolt cap is a disposable filter, to be disposed properly at your responsible place.

At the other side (scoots RH side) there is a mesh filter under a horizontal 17mm  plug which can be cleaned and reused.
