For "Bike" substitute "Scooter"
« on: October 30, 2023, 09:23:06 AM »
Pinched from elsewhere,

THE DREAM THAT MANY WILL NOT UNDERSTAND:

I bought a BIKE for a personal dream... One day when I am very old and when I can not walk anymore, it will be in my garage as a trophy of my memories.
I met people who taught me something and have the same spirit and I met others that I'm glad I forgot.
I got wet,
I felt cold,
And I felt warm,
I was afraid,
I fell,
And I stand up,
I even hurt myself,
But also, I laughed out loud inside the helmet.
I spoke a thousand times with myself.
I sang and shouted with joy like a madman, ...and yes, ... sometimes I cried.
I have seen wonderful places and lived unforgettable experiences.
I often made curves that even Schwantz would be proud of; other times I made curves full of terror.
I stopped a thousand times to see a landscape.
I spoke with perfect strangers, and I forgot people I see every day.
I went out with my demons inside and returned home with a feeling of absolute peace in my heart.
I always thought how dangerous it is, knowing that the meaning of courage is to advance even feeling fear.
Every time I go up to my machine I think about how wonderful it is.
I stopped talking to those who do not understand, (they just do not understand) and I learnt through gestures to communicate with other riders.
I spent money that I did not have, giving up many things, but all these things are not worth even a moment without my BIKE.
It is not a means of transport or a piece of iron with wheels, it is the lost part of my soul and my spirit.
And when someone says to me: "You have to sell the BIKE and you have to be a more serious person", ... I do not answer. I just swing my head and smile,
walking on, a BIKE..... only the person who loves them understands it.
May God bless my friends and their toys of great people!
And the adventure continues.......??

Regards & ride safe,
Neil

Oh, THAT'S IT! (pitiful weeping sounds) you have found the perfect description!

These cruisers definitely are "bikes!" Similar to a cabin with indoor plumbing!

Great, nearly poetry!
I think @klaviator has this motto....
"I ride therefore I am"

Sometimes I catch myself just going into my garage, watching and doing not really neccessary things on the scoot.
Happy and safe scootering, Ruffus

For me it's not exactly the essence of what I feel, but it's pretty darned close.

same here,  my K-Pipe & AK550 are the only ones registered, I have a V-Strom 1000 that runs and road worthy, but undergoing a major customization, also a pair of Yamaha XV920Rs, hopefully can be restored to one complete original, and the other, turned into a cafĂ© racer. and finally, my little red nekid '99 SV650, extra wheels for it, all in pieces, I'd like to turn it into a bobtail motard

Yeah - pretty cool list, Neil!

I don't know - I remember how happy I was as a teen to climb on my Honda to ride and park right behind where I worked at the hospital in Mass. Rode it year around.
It made getting up and going to work - well, happy!

I just like being outside.
When you ride you're outside!
Even when I had only that early Mustang convertible - I always drove it with the top down - snow goes right over the top on the highway!
Folks have probably figured out I'm not a fan of speed. Never have been. I like quality and reliability - which is why 4 of my 7 rides were Hondas.

I'm not as fond of the cold these days - but once I get out there in the sticks and dark - I'm glad I did it.

THE most fun, in my memory - was getting on that first Honda early in the morning over 50 yrs ago.

Thanks for your post Neil!

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.
