It's cold
« on: January 13, 2024, 07:51:12 PM »
Probably cold in your area, too. (did you see that game time temperature for tonight's Kansas City game is predicted to be 0°F!)
I ride based on overnight weather and temperatures.
Due to a wicked cold, and the overnight temps and w/rain - my daughter has hidden my scooter keys. My last ride was the day after Xmas!

Glad we got the furnace checked the other day - and the women now have all the hot water they want!

single digits for the next 3 nights. I would, and have, commuted to work on my scooter in those temps - but going to the next county for coffee....well, a break-down on a 12ry old scooter in the dark, miles into the sticks - in temps below 20°F wouldn't be fun.

I can be patient.
Maybe a nice morning like this will be along soon...

2 degrees outside, heading to a low of -14. Even better is our power is out! Went out 1 hr 10 mins ago..
About 22" of snow over the past 5 days, blizzard warning the last 2 days...sigh...sitting on my couch with candles lit, mellow tunes playing and reading my Nighthawk service manual...could be worse

Nowhere near what Hawk is enduring, but herein the UK we have had the first snow warning for the year coming in from today. Temperatures around high 20s to low 30s F. Just below freezing overnights, just above daytime.

Can’t see me doing much tyre testing next week…
Regards & ride safe,
Neil

power (and heat) came back on after almost exactly 2 hours. House temp only dropped about 3 degrees, but it's still unnerving when power is out and temps are that low! Woke up this morning to 20 below zero...but at least the skies are blue and the sun is out!

-7F out right now even though it's after lunch time. We also had 22+ inches of snow... half early in the week and the rest Friday. About 7 am today we had only dropped down to -18F with wind chills around -42F. I cleared the driveway at least 3 times over Friday night through Saturday afternoon due to the winds being up to 25+ mph with much higher gusts (almost double that) back filling anything I did. Mid-week I had to dig paths and areas in the back yard for the dogs to go out. A Min-Pin and Cavalier don't like sinking into a foot or more of snow and I don't like my first step  out the back door to be into something they dropped the moment they stepped out. And after the second round of snow Friday those paths were completely filled in so I had to dig them out again

No riding for a little while. The street in front of our house is now a solid white color that is about an inch of highly compacted frozen stuff. My driveway is at least a little more clear than that. I can actually see the concrete in spots.

We have a GeoThermal system for heating and cooling. That doesn't help if the power goes out. But it doesn't have to struggle to draw heat from the outside air and bring it up to what we want/need inside since everything is buried deep underground where the temps are the same all year.

I watched that KC game last night. Temps were a little colder than expected... I think I heard mention of -2F at one point early in the game.

I was thinking about you Hawk....got up in the middle of the night, watched the Kansas game hi-lights on youtube (the h_ll with Peacock!) and turned the thermostat up to 68!
By the mircowave and oven clocks - I see that our power went out, too, for 11 minutes sometime overnight.
Yeah - power off is spooky - no telling how long it will stay out. We had one power outage, yrs ago, for 8 or 9 hours - when a car took out a power station up the road. Lightning strikes, wind-blown tree branches - etc. rarely out for more than a few minutes.
Glad you're up and running again!
Stig

high of 5°F today - light snow overnight.

If I ever sell the scooters - the truck can come inside!

I put a big DieHard in it every 3 years. Has @70,000 on it. I think it's an '06. Chevy probably. Get's reg oil and filter changes.
 :)

Only tried to kill me once - but I was only just backing out of the driveway when the brake lines blew.
The mechanic, when I called - "So - bet it hasn't had the brake line kit, yet?"
"!!??"
A flat-bed tow, and $800 had it back on the road.
still a little p[ssed it tried to kill me.....but, whatever.

Minus 4 C for us tonight.  Warm compared to Iowa!  Woke up to a light dusting of snow (<1cm) this morning, the Husky loved it.
