Smaller not sure, but there are new EPA regulations so you have to have specialized tools to adjust the carburetor.
Use a small LEFT hand twist drill bit to remove the screws. They will spin right out as soon as the bit bites, and replace them with standard screw sets. It's just as easy as before except for buying a new drill bit.

Nope i dont have that and never did  :-\

All i have is the nut that goes onto the crank to hold on the variator, no washer on mine but i do have a metal washer thats molded into the plastic fan on the outside. If def wont come off mine as its part of the fan itself. Mine sits flush anyway so i guess it makes no difference on my 2008 model.
Put that washer back on. It holds the var from spinning off the nut and Nothing more... The 3mph is in your "but Dyno", not the washer.

under the nut that holds the varator on there was a rather thick washer

..ummm...removing that washer will do nothing to change the geometry of the variator...and will not affect performance in any way...

...the purpose of that washer is to give the nut a hardened seat to tighten against, as opposed to seating against the splined fan retainer.

..i suggest puttng it back!!!!!
Look up
