Tail of the Dragon
« on: July 17, 2024, 07:26:10 PM »
Klaviator,

I just got back from vacation last week and had the chance to drive the Tail of the Dragon from Tennessee to North Carolina. I was driving my BMW X3 M40i in sport plus mode and that is one of the craziest drives i have done since the Amalfi coast in Italy. I took it relatively slow going up to the North Carolina border(With a fence up top...lol). On the way back i got little more aggressive and it was insane. You can see better going down, but I can only imagine what it was like on your scooters. I wound out that B58 engine on uphill turns and had to back off a little on downhill turns since i was carrying 5000 lbs of mass. What a delightful experience with beautiful scenery all around with the water and mountains. I now understand how intense your scooter pics are when you come to those hairpin turns...

I used to take a week vacation there every year, but it's been nearly 20 years. More of a base of exploring than running the dragon. iirc my best time with my SV650 was just under 16 minutes from Tabcat bridge to Fugitive bridge

Magic Road.  Only done it once in the early 90's on a friend's CBR600 and I ended up having to apologise to him for all the scrape marks on his fairing!  These days I'd be on a scooter and using the time gained to admire the scenery.
Regards & ride safe,
Neil
