20,000 miles on a LIKE200i LX

reached 20,000miles on my Kymco at 5:30 Friday morning....was in the middle of the street by the police station so I pulled onto the sidewalk (in front of 4 off-duty deputies!) to record the event.



Manufactured in China, 4/2012. Purchased new 5/2013.


It's been a great scooter. Carried me in all kinds of temperatures and weather.




and it's easy to service (easy access to the valve cover for valve adjustments)


Not a great deal of miles - but since 2014 it has shared riding miles, 50/50, with another scooter. (Forza, Burgman or Liberty)

I'd buy another new left-over LIKE200i in a heartbeat! Well made, rugged, great EFI for instant starts and quick to smooth idle.

I would not recommend that the scooter be ignored and not ridden for months or years at a time.

Ride it...or sell it to someone who will ride it!

That’s impressive! Has anything broken in that time? Maybe a fuel pump back in the day? I don’t even recall you needing brakes..or wheel bearings..or..anything?

About 10 mos into ownership the LIKE developed a severe stumble when cruising at a steady 30mph. Guess where I like to ride?!

In and out of the dealer and they could not replicate it. "Idles great, easy starts, WOT is perfect.???" Could not get them to listen, "YES, but go 30mph and wait....!"
I told them to keep it until it ran correctly.

Now that I saw how much I loved scooter riding - I bought the lovely red Forza!
 The LIKE sat at the dealer's for a few months.
Finally I got help from the KymcoUSA customer rep (guy named Rocky) and from Crossbolts (he lent me his Kymco diagnostic tool) - and my little public complaint blurb on youtube.....all of which got things rolling!

Karl and I proved the TPS was ill - Rocky saw my youtube and told my dealer to:
A) buy the Kymco diagnostic tool
B) replace my throttle body

Under the 2 yr drive-train warranty I got a new throttle body  - and it has been perfect since those days. There have been a very few similar complaints from 2012 LIKE200i owners here. Apparently a small batch of bad TPS/throttle body went into our scooters around 2011/2012.

A few years ago - my LIKE started pulling forward at idle. I returned home and correctly suspected that a small clutch spring had let go. Rather than deal with that - I decided that the new clutch assembly still in the box for 7 years now! in my spares drawer - needed to be used before it got any older!
The lube in the new clutch assembly was so dry after 7 years in my tool chest - that I had to disassemble it and re-lube things to get it to "open" to accept the belt!
BTW - the clutch pads on the old clutch looked good for another couple of years!

Brake pads last forever - the open snorkel-end for the airfilter is so well placed that the airfilter never gets dirty in my scooter! Of course I never ride dirt roads. I think I still have 2 of the orig 3 spares I purchased in 2013. Haven't burnt out a bulb. Spares getting dusty.

I use only Kymco parts. Replace the belt @ every 6K miles. Could it go further? Sure - but there are too many road situations where a belt snap would be no fun.
The scooter uses nothing but fuel and oil - for years - so it doesn't kill me to replace the belts often!

Oh yes, what did I replace 10 yrs ago when trying to get my scooter to run without that stumble at 30mph - and the dealer couldn't find it??
Injector, coil, fuel pump, spark plug and lead. Coil was a b__ch to remove!
These like new orig. parts are still in my spares drawer.

It's getting on in years - one fine cold winter day it will stop on me out in the boonies!
Then I'll marry a red-head!
