rounding up bits for LIKE's service rodeo!
« on: October 19, 2024, 08:56:30 PM »
To insure I'm not getting knock-offs, I ordered correct Dr P slider weights and slide pieces from ttps://www.buggypartsnw.com today.
I've dealt with them for over a decade.

Also,
I have a new OEM Kymco belt, still sealed in the bag.
An OEM valve cover gasket to re-seal after a valve check.
A new Iridium spark plug to install - while I'm down there.
A new OEM air cleaner.
A couple of new OEM nuts for both ends of the CVT - I'll buff the clutch pads and bell..
I've a bottle of Honda gear oil - while I'm lying there hugging the CVT - I'll drain and replace.
And, still down there - I like to break free and lube the brake sliding pins every so often.
Maybe next year I can renew the brake fluid....with my mightvac. Thx for hiding the reservoirs Kymco!

This stuff takes me an afternoon because I like to clean everything as like new....and sometimes I doze off on my thick rubber floor mat. (paper towel roll = pillow :)

I remember well my first attempt to do the simple belt change......I was stopped fully by the belt cover refusing to come off!
Stuck - on step one!!
Darn thing was glued on there....! Hours lost here....

This sort of thing is quite common when I undertake a simple service for the first time!
Doing something on the LIBERTY - step one was removing the passenger foot pegs. NO GO~! the two torx bolts were stuck fast! on a brand new scooter! 2 hrs later....
Anyway......let's not talk about it....

I did try to set fire to my LIKE after one valve check.
Left a big 'ol wad of paper-towel below the valve cover to catch any oil drips....
Rode over to the state park - dismounted and wondered what was burning in the forest?
Scorched that paper towel black on the exhaust header....

Well, I've had 12 good years on my LIKE - if I should break it - I shouldn't be upset.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

sounds like my kind of afternoon! Making sure your caliper slide pins are cleaned and lubed is smart..many brake pads suffer an early death from slide pins that don't slide any more. I do that to my personal car, too. Original brake pads, front and rear, for 97K miles and still going strong.
