Italian designer details on 1st gen. LIKE
« on: November 27, 2024, 08:31:09 PM »
Kymco approached Italian designer Massimo Zaniboni to draw for them a few new scooters. It is written that he took his inspiration for the Kymco LIKE from scooters of the 1950's and 60's.
Some say the LIKE looks a mating of a Vespa and a Lambretta.

Straight away in waxing my new LIK200iLX I noted several small design details ...
for instance, these 3, functional, flow-thru vents:

My scooter, with over 20,000 miles, was manufactured in a Kymco plant in China 12 yrs ago. While I've disassembled much of this scooter for servicing - the quality of the plastic and metal parts continues to impress me. I was lucky that my first scooter is also very easy to service!
Massimo Z. was also onboard with a couple other Kymco models.

While I've not kept abreast of things VW - I remember that VW turned to two Italian houses to design their Karmann Ghia and the VW Mk1 Golf.

To my eye - the French are #1 in pleasing scooter designs - with the Italians close behind!

that's all i got...

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

“Some say the LIKE looks a mating of a Vespa and a Lambretta.”. In which case some would’ve just about nailed it. Always thought your Like looks quintessentially Italian 🇮🇹 Stig.

Gotta love Italian design flair. I’ll just say Ducati 916 and rest my case.
Regards & ride safe,
Neil

when I'm parked getting groceries or other errands, someone always asks if it's a Vespa with my Like 200I.
