Reset Switch
« on: April 15, 2011, 10:01:08 PM »
Oh....Urbestfriend went down the drive too slow
and hit a golf ball size stone with the front tire.

Said stone caught the wheel... turned it to the left
and bike fell over.   Urbestfriend is not as spry and fast
as he once was.   Tried several times,  but only wore
Bike and Pacemaker  Batteries Down.

Now I'm having trouble getting it started.  Is there
something that needs reset.  Kickstand up, Emer. Stop
open, plenty of gas.

I do not see any mention of a reset switch in either the service manual nor the users manual.

If the Emergency Stop switch is set properly, you may want to switch it back and forth a few times in case it is sitting in an in-between position.

Be sure that the battery is fully charged before starting the starting process again.  Modern ignition systems do not like low voltages, I have heard.

Is the scooter low on gas ?

The users manual says if the engine doesn't start, try starting again with the throttle slightly turned (1/8 turn).
It may take several tries.

Another guess by me:
Perhaps the tip-over resulted in excess gasoline flooding the cylinder.  Place the scooter on the centerstand and be sure that the rear tire is in the air.  Try starting with the throttle held open for 3 seconds.  Be prepared to close the throttle if the engire starts.  Try this 2 times.  Then try a standard start.

Remember that your starter motor can overheat so do not use it for more than 4 sec at a time and then allow a 10 sec cool down between trials.

Good luck and scoot safely,

I have heard that sometimes when a scoot is layed over, some oil will migrate to the air filter through the vent and plug the oil filter.  If this happens, you are not getting enough air.  May be worth looking into.

If you have an evaporative canister (US only), it can flood and prevent the carb/FI from getting air.

Hey, UBF.  Sorry about that bit of bad luck.   >:(  I thought you had an Xciting 250 rather than a GV so is this posted in the wrong section?  Sounds like something I would do!  :D  My guess is it's flooded.  I think mine did same thing after I dropped it (in my driveway -- how embarassing) a while back.  Try what Mary K said about opening throttle and cranking.  Bet that'll work.

Thanks everyone....After setting all night on a Trickle Charger and just
plain letting everything drain back to where it belonged.   It started just fine.

Yes...I do have both Xciting and GV.   It's like having 2 cars.  When one is out
of commission,  you still have another to get around.

And when somethying does go wrong,  it's usually a week just to get parts.
