« on: March 11, 2025, 09:18:40 PM »
Thinking about getting a used Kymco scooter but wanted to know about servicing options(parts..etc) as back when I had my People 150 there wasn't any issue..wondering if things have changed at all

TIA

I know it's difficult in Michigan. There's only one dealer in the Detroit area, and THEY WON'T WORK ON ANYTHING OLDER THAN 10 YEARS. That's a bad sign. That's why I sold mine and went to Honda.

Yup..apparently no better here in NYC so I passed on it..def considering a used Honda PCX 150 as a bunch of shops said parts are plentiful and maintenance is reasonable.

I owned a People 150 from '97-'08 and had no concerns about servicing not to mention the abundance of used ones available..

Now?

Nada...barely a used scooter in this city..a bunch of delivery dude chinese made models but I'll take a pass on those..lol

While I understand the benefit of having nearby service....most on this forum have never taken their scoots to a dealer for service. They are very reliable and regular service / maintenance is easily performed at home. Parts are available via mail order, if needed.

Everything you'd ever want to do to your scoot has its own Youtube video, somewhere. All service, maintenance, mods. etc. Just throwing this out there as something to consider. (Honda PCX 150 is also a solid choice!)

I'm the odd man out, other than lubing chains, checking oil, air pressure, and add accessories, my bikes are 100% dealer serviced. I do however, have a unique relationship, the owner is a friend, I have done several jobs, my UXV450i, I got on a barter deal. They have gone to bat for me with Suzuki NA to resolve issues with my Vstrom, during the covid pandemic, when parts were scarce, they used non oem parts (with my permission)

But, I have gone to bat for the owner at local zoning & planning board meetings and state & Army Corps of Engineers at the Federal level, on personal projects of his and approvals for his 2nd location. They treat me good with 15% discount, 30day terms, pickup & delivery, no appointment, they will fit me in.

Sounds a great quid pro quo arrangement you have there Randy.  Cherish it!

I got my AK550 for $8k otd, I saw reports of people paying as much as $13k, But I think of some of the projects I've done for him, my first 25 years ago, was just a consultation walk on a house lot he was looking at to build his home, waterfront on a tidal river, which continued on to more work, with clam flats in front of his property, we got wetlands bureau permits for the longest dock in the State, to date, an accomplishment that put me in the top of my field

Success like that would cement a mutually beneficial relationship Randy.  Great story.

the staff at my local dealer are go getters, not afraid to go up the chain, to  Kaohsiung City, if necessary
