We tested all the electrics fuel etc the the starter motor seemed jammed so we to it off and tested it on its own and it was ok. Then my freind stripped it so the piston was exposed and it wiggled and was loose and we stopped there as he said the big ends gone. I dont have pictures as we didnt strip it down any further.

Im not sure whether to get the bits or a new engine or just sell it for spares.

Its an 09 but the warranty wont hold as I did all the oil changes etc because the garages charge so much money.

I would double check the diagnosis of your friend.
It is EXTREMELY unlikely it would go wrong at so little kms...
Anyway, is it bearings or crankshaft itself?

Hi,
Thanks for youre help again axy. To be honest im not sure if it is bearings OR crankshaft because we didnt continue stripping it any further but it is one or the other. I am very confident in my freind and the starter motor worked ok on its own but jammed when it was atatched properly due to the crank / bearing problem. Also the kickstarter didnt work correctly it also got stuck. I will take some pictures of the stage im at as I am sure I should be able to describe the problem better so you can identify it is a serious problem. I shall do it tomorrow.

Thanks again.

Pls do.
Btw. regardless of you changing the oil by yourself, I think you should try to claim the warranty.
If it is really crankshaft or bearings, it is a manufacturing defect and warranty should be valid.
Try to find a good dealer willing to go down that route.

These engine parts are quite expensive, I will say this without checking but crankshaft itself is easily 400 US$ + a number of bearings and small parts that have to be replaced (pins, bushings, gaskets, etc.)

As long as you can document the oil changes the warranty is good. I asked Kymco before I started doing the changes myself. Did you ever find the problem?

Kymco UK never rang me back even though the lady was freindly on the phone.

It turned out the internal bearings had gone.

I bought another engine from ebay and it's been fitted and the bike runs again.

The new engine had a 3 months warranty and does run better than the old one but it does stutter a bit at lower speeds but the other one did too ???. The solenoid went and I had it replaced with a better one my freind had laying around and that made it start way way better.

I'm starting to trust it a little more again and am using it daily for work.
