Looking for help, please! Having bogging issues with ZX50
« on: March 20, 2011, 12:29:51 PM »
Hello All.  New to forum - very excited to read all the information and tuning "tricks" on scooters.
Just bought a used ZX50 with 7500km's.  Before buying, it ran pretty good.  I had no problems getting 40+ mph out of her.  Now, after about 30km's or so, I can only reach 20 mph or so and the engine sputters like crazy.  It does not die, it just won't give me any more speed.
Looking for ideas on where to start my troubleshooting.  Running 91 with no ethanol - synthetic two stroke oil as well.
Any feedback would be great!!!
Thanks, Petey.

By the sound of that, the first thing I would do is clean the air filter, as it becomes clogged it reduces air flow, making the mix richer.
Wash filter in petrol or kerosene, dry out then squeeze some oil into it (if it is the foam filter), all should be good.

Is it the stock filter? I should have asked first.

Hey, sid.  Cleaning the stock air filter helped quite a bit.
So, I decided to just pop for a new one.  Now all is good.
I also cleaned the exhaust as well.  That seemed to help also.
Many thanks!!! ;D

Cool mate, is good when it is the simple things, especially when they are the cheap ones.
