Electrical trouble symptoms
« on: February 22, 2011, 10:50:09 PM »
Had a little flick of the tach needle recently. Cruising along at a steady 6k rpms and the needle would flick upward a coupla hunnert rpm and then settle down. Day before yesterday it got worse. Yesterday it got REAL WORSE jumping all the way to 8 and 9k. I was determined to find the loose contact (what else could it be?) no matter what. I started with the battery and there it was! The ground cable bolt was loose as a goose eatin' green grass. Tightening the bolt got rid of the errant tach reading and all was well...

EXCEPT

there was NO bracket, holder or ANYTHING holding the battery in its little cubby hole. There WERE four nutplates one at each corner of the battery but no bolts or hold-down! Dealer or Kymco sorta forgot something, hah! Called the dealer this PM and he said he would take care of it right away.

I have sort of the same symptoms, but I've only seen it at idle.

It'll idle along at about 1600 RPM, and every once in a while, I'll see it jump up to 1900 RPM, but I don't hear the engine speed increasing.

I haven't noticed this on the road at higher RPM, because I don't look at the tach when I'm on the road, and I've only got about 18 miles on it so far.

I'll be sure to check the battery cables.

Update: Dealer again said he would ship the parts when Kymco USA got them. Sent an e-mail to Kymco USA asking for them to assist in the project. Will advise.
