changing main jet
« on: April 13, 2011, 09:50:04 PM »
Hi, I derestricted my agility (variotor, cdi and rollers) now I seem to be running lean. Is a main jet something an average person can change? And if so,where can I find instructions on how to do that? Also,is running a bit lean a very bad thing to do? My bag of parts came with a 80 main jet in it so I guess it has an 82 installed and I was thinking of putting in an 85,would that be about right?  ps,my cdi was already cut and when I changed the variator it was smooth so I really didnt need to change it. Thank you for listening and any help would be appreciated  Dale

mmmm not sure on that one I did the same as you and I have the 82 jet in mine. maybe its just a carb
adjustment you need. or the jet you have in the scoot is smaller then 80 and its easy to do your self do a search on the forum im sure you well find out how that way.

changing main jet is easy :D

1st thing is to unplug the fuel and hold it pointing up, so nothing is comming out of it. then  to empty the bottom piece of the carb, by unscrewing the screw witch is at the carb under the gascable.

2nd thing is to turn the carburator upside down, and take off the bottom piece (witch is now the upper) by loosening 3 screws.

3rd: you should now see the main jet in the middle of the top piece of the carburator, and it can be unscrewed with a flat screwdriver. put in your new main jet, and assemble it again.

4th: pump the kickstarter and the el-starter untill it starts... if it doesent, or if it runs badly, try another size jet.

DO NOT UNSCREW THE WRONG JET, AS IT BROKE WHEN I FIRST MADE THAT MISTAKE.
First Kymco agility 50 (2008) 11.000+ km (dead)
Second kymco agility 50 (2010) 20.000+ km. Project Fuel Injection. Stolen.
Kymco K-pipe 125 (2014) 7400 km.

I saw how to take the jet out but do not know how to remove the carb from the engine. I looked at it but couldn't figure it out,I would like to see a video on it. Or am I over thinking it,it's probably simple but I'm not seeing it. Anyone here removed one before?    Thanks

you are over seeing it. its easy. theres 2 claps on each side undo theam with a philup screw driver.and take off the thortle cable and un plug the choke and you are done but if you are not sure of doing this and playing with the jets and takeing the carb apart its best to leave alone and get on hands help.

Agree is can be a bit scarey beforehand but once you change it you will wonder what you were scared of, its easy really. Type in main jet change on gy6 to youtube and you should find a few vids, I did.

May take a min or 2 to start up once you change the jet but it will fire up, just keep turning it over but dont twist the throttle too much or you will flood the engine, like I did 1st time.

I really thought I broke my scoot cos it wouldnt start up for ages and my battery went flat. Tok out plug and dried that off then jump started it off my car and it was fine, has been ever since.
Chaos is my co-pilot.
