Hi,
New to forum as well as to my Kymco People 50 2T. Had a Honda Spree and the folks on that forum are fantastic. Hoping to find the same here. Bought a People 50, 2001, with 956k on the odometer for $500. Think I stole it considering I sold my Modified 1984 Spree for the same amount. I am looking fo a black buddy seat for this. Where can I get one, and is there anyone on the forum who has one for sale?

I was also out riding last night, and out of the blue (it seems), I lost spark. Going to get new plug this afternoon. How many miles typically for a plug change?

Help!!!!!

I bought a new plug, gapped it, installed it, and still would not start. I pulled the plug and checked for spark, and I am getting none. From what I have read, I should first check my coil, then cdi. Bike rode beautiful for 1000k, then just died last night when I was decellerating. I have gotten caught in a couple of big rain storms on my commute home over the past few days. Yesterday I rode it for about 10 minutes, and just stopped.

Can I remove the coil and bring somewhere to have tested? CDI Box? Are the just routine replaces and if coil doesnt work then replace cdi? Where is a good place to purchase?

Please, any help is appreciated. This is my daily driver, and I need it back!

 ???Call me impatient, but I posted this on Thursday of last week, as of this morning, 111 people have read it, and not 1 person has responded? I have no Kymco dealer nearby, and am stuck without a daily driver. I have to rely on others to get me to work, etc. I guess I have gotten spoiled by the folks at the Honda Spree forum, where I would ususally get responses within minutes! Does my problem sound like a coil or CDI problem? Are these parts usually changed at the same time? Where is a good place to get them? (again, no Kymco dealer nearby) I would really appreciate any help that  is offered.

G'day mate, have you got the service manual? If not, there is a thread in the general section "links to service manuals", if you do a search for that you should be able to find it, has been burried for a while now. Look through and you will find a link to the people 50 service manual. In the manual you will find the diagnostic chart for the ignition system. With my ZX50, my hard starting continued until I replaced the CDI. I think they are a weak link on these scoots. Sorry I could'nt be more help.

By the way catsailor, I don't have a Kymco dealer in town either, so I usually get my parts through ebay, either Scooter Assassins or Autotech355, can usually get good prices and sometimes reasonable or free shipping.

So these are not Kymco Specific parts? I can purchase a DC pulsed CDI from anywhere and it should work? Thanks for your help on this sloth. I appreciate the quick response.

You should be able to find parts to fit your model scoot. With mine, the tzr50 cdi for the zx50 was about $64+ shipping. I bought the tzr50 cdi for the honda dio, $10+$8 shipping. I had to work out the wiring and it now runs like a charm. Look around and you will usually find parts for your scoot.

Im back on the road! I replaced the CDI with a generic DC CDI from Monster Scooter Parts off of ebay. Got the part delivered for less than $30. The pin configuration was not the same as the Kymco, but was able to get a copy of the pinout, and download the Service Manual. Between the 2, I was able to make it work on the first shot. Im looking forward to good riding now for the rest of the summer/fall. Thanks for your help Sidesloth.

Dont get downhearted catsailor, sometimes it just takes a little longer for the right person to see the post. Even tho loads of folk have read your post they probably, like me, didnt know the answer, better to get no advice rather than wrong advice. Some one will help you out in the end on here, its a good forum and theres lots of people who know their stuff, ive learned loads in 6 months when i knew nothing at all before.
