What is weight capacity for 50cc?
« on: May 23, 2011, 09:28:59 PM »
Hello!  I'm thinking about getting  Kymco 50cc.  Not sure which one yet.  I'm just wondering what the weight capacity is of the Kymco 50cc's.  I know I need to lose weight, but that isn't the issue at the moment! ;)  I weigh just about 300 pds.  I plan on riding for fun just around town, to the park, etc.  I won't have to go over 40 mph.  We do have some hills in town, though.  Please give me your opinions.  Thank you!    ;D

I don't know about the other models but the zx50 is rated to carry 110 kg. They are a great little scooter, though I may be a little biased. :) From what I have read on this forum, the people 50 is about the best for power and stability. Which ever scoot you choose, I am sure you will enjoy it.

I had a blast with my People 50 and I weigh about 230 pounds.  You're not going to win any races, but it should carry you fine.  I would recommend the people 50 over others because it has much larger wheels than most other scooters, and also is a 2 stroke so it will have more oomph to get moving.

I got the weight rating from my owner's manual. If you read through the people 50 section, you will see a lot of good reports about them. Also bear in mind, the weight rating is what the manufacturer recommends as the maximum, it is not necessarily the maximum weight it can carry so don't be put off by that initially.

I just had a look at the people 50 manual and it's weight limit is 110kg (242.5lbs).

the best scoot for bigger people would be something that sits low to the gound and not that high up for the balance and stabilty for safty reasones.I have leard that the hard way. my wife is a bigger women and I injoy her rideing with me but because of her size she dont ride much because of it.I have found out that I change the drive belt more on her scoot then mine. I beleave most scoots can handle the weight its just a few extra repairs on your scoot. shes had the same scoot for about 3 years now and it stell running strong. good luck geting a scoot for your self and thing of your safty frist. happy rideing.

I have an Agility 50cc 4stroke, think you would find that too weak powered. With myself and my wife on my scoot we struggled to get up hills at anything over 10mph, it was embarrassing, together we weight around 300 pounds. Its ok with just me on it at 11.5-12 stone, 30-40mph uphill and top speed of 50mph on flat ground with the mods I did. Better to go for a 2 stroke I think, kind of wish I did that now instead of buying my 4 stroke.
Chaos is my co-pilot.

Kymco seems to declare 110 kg for all its scoots, from 50 cc Agility to my 250 cc.
It seems that nobody really tested that, it is just written inside "for show".

Also, far eastern manufacturers of bikes tend to make 1 person = 54 kg.
It was like that on my Kawasaki ZR-7S too when I bought it 9 years ago...

I think the 110 kg limit is just a safe limit to cover them for warranty reasons.
