Life with a Reevu MSX1 rear view mirror Helmet
« on: September 20, 2011, 03:00:07 PM »
For those who are interested in this helmet I thought I'd share my experience with it as a 300i owner. This is more of a seat of the pants review and purely subjective. The Reevu is a helmet with a built in rear view mirror system. I'll post a link below where you can get it and see photos if interested. I'm not really reviewing the helmet, because others have already done that. It's a good helmet in its own, but I bought it for the rear view mirror. To be honest, after having it for 4 months, I still don't know what to think, a part of me thinks its the coolest ever, then another part just thinks it's just okay I and should have looked at others.  Note: there is a guy on the Vespa forum that claims this helmet saved his life because he saw a truck about the slam into his back and he was able to move. And there have been sport bike riders that have claimed it's gotten them out of tickets because they were able to see the police behind them better. The rear view mirrors on the 300i are very good. If I had another bike with crappy mirrors, this helmet would go high on my list of safety equipment, but as our mirrors are good, so I'm not sure how much it helps me. The system takes a little getting use to, as in to see the blind spot on your right, you have to look left. The main issue I have is, I like riding with my visor up most of the time. It's cooler in the summer that way. So, I wear sunglasses. Sun glasses, at least polarized ones, make the rear view mirror hard to see and pretty much useless for me. Maybe non-polarized sunglasses don't have this affect. You can buy smoked visors for the helmet, which without sunglasses, the mirror becomes more usable. I suppose I could get the smoked visor and ride with it half up, but I like the wind blowing on my face as much as possible. The other issue I have, is I must tend to look up when I ride more than other riders, because if feels like I have to keep my head tilted slightly down to see through the mirror. It's not a huge difference, but it doesn't feel natural to me. Maybe it's the way I sit upright on the 300. There are quite a bit of adjustments you can make to the mirror, but none that truly fit my style. However, it's a very quality helmet with nice features even with out the mirror.

Sure sounds like a cool gadget, but I really like my build-in sun visor on my HJC IS-16.

I kind of like the hinged helmets. Gives you best of both worlds. Full face, and 3/4.
