I was able to take the top end apart last night. From what I can gather the first owner installed an Airsal Big Bore Kit.
I looked at the Piston and this is what I have:
There is a pinhole through the 1 ring piston (I have never seen a 1 ring piston before). I have a few observations, assumptions, gripes.......
1. I installed a bbk on my Honda Spree. A few things were necessary in order to run properly. First, the carb needed to be up jetted. I also had to drill some hole in the airbox in order to get more air in. Airbox on my People appears to be stock with no modifications. I have not yet pulled apart the carb to see the jet. What is the stock jet size? Has anyone installed one of these and if so, what jet was used? Were there any modifications to the airbox?
2. On the Spree, it was necessary add an extra 2 oz of 2 stroke oil per gallon of gas, directly into the fuel tank to compensate for an oil pump that was only designed to handle the displacement of a 50 cc engine vs the 66 cc that the big bore kit gave me. I was not aware that a kit was installed on this scooter when I bought it. I have been driving it for over 2000 km with straight 87 octane gas in the tank, and synthetic 2 stroke injector oil in the oil tank. For those that have installed BBK's on their Kymcos, are you adding extra oil to your fuel tank to compensate, and if so how much?
3. Where do I get a replacement piston and gasket set for this BBK? I measured the piston, and it is about 47.5 mm. From what I have found on the internet, this appears to be a 72cc kit. The Stock piston is 39mm. I have ordered The stock set from Scooter Assasins, and suppose I will have to return it once it finally gets here. In the meantime I need to find a replacement piston, rings, and gasket set for this Airsal kit, preferrably here in the states.
Any inshight on any of this would be big help.
Thanks,
Todd
