Need for new crankshaft with upgrade?

I just spoke with a gentleman on the phone about installing my 80cc kit and he said that on any scooter that he puts anything larger than 60cc he installs a new crankshaft because the bearings in the stock one will eventually wear out and cause damage to my scoot.

Is this necessary?

true I have seen so many scoots brke down after a 70 kit so im sure its the same for a 80. If it was me I would of just got a bigger scoot all long. if you want a 50 buy a 50 if ya want a 80 buy a 80 so on and so on.

That might have been the better idea, I never meant to even get a scoot kinda fell into it and now that I have one I've created a monster and have kinda gone too far to turn back now...

IMHO, NO.....There are LOTS of ppl that use the stock crank.. Kymco makes a good,strong crank, besides this guy said something about the bearings going out in the crank???.....oooook, change that bearing/con rod, not the whole crank...lol   Personally i think he's jus trying to get more money from you...

when ever you take your scoot in for repairs tell theam to save the old parts so you can see what they realy looked like. so you know you were not riped off.

I was thinking of just changing the rod/bearings but they are factory sealed and from what I understand practically impossible to just swap out. But I have never even dug that far into the engine so I'm kinda nervous to do it on my own.

I don't have any experience changing conrod bearings on these crankshafts so I personally would give that job to someone with experience and the correct tools. If there are no problems with your existing crank, I would just reuse it, until you want to replace it.

Jus keep your crank, save that money for another mod

Yea, I think that's gonna be the plan keep the current crank and count on good ol' Kymco quality. Can't wait for the 80cc kit order to be placed and installed soon as I get the money and the time (hopefully next two weeks). Next up performance variator, clutch assembly and kevlar belt!

There was a discussion an Kevlar belts i read the other day saying theyre not as good as rubber. Worth reading that before you commit to Kevlar.

I will definitely look for the discussion before I hand over any cash for especially since they aren't typically cheap. I assume they have the tendency to slip a bit more than necessary...

It was more to do with them not lasting as long and how some had just snapped and ripped up thro wear. You cant tell as easy when its due to go on kevlar but you can see when your rubber belt begins to get worn and swap it long before any snappage. Think that was the general feeling on the thread anyway.

My understanding of the kevlar belts is that the fibres inside the belt are kevlar. It is this that makes a mess when it breaks.
