Yeah, just have a helper push down on the rear end while you pluck the valve cover off.
Have it on the side stand then center it and move it up and down, you'll see how much clearance you'll need.
I tried it by myself with a cinching strap, but couldn't get it to clear from where I was pulling the engine to the frame on the center stand.
My buddy shows up, bounces the rear end down, and it popped right off. Replacement was easy in reverse.
