Think I may have broken her :(
« on: July 27, 2011, 02:28:21 AM »
It's been a while guys hope you are all doing well, i seem to be in need of your assistance again... It was 121 degrees on the heat index today and i was scootin along when all of a sudden i lost a good amount of power then the scoot died on me, it overheated of course the plug was pretty burnt and smoke was coming out of the crankcase ventilation tube (tube that comes off the valve cover) It burnt quite a bit of oil in this process so when i got it home (in the back of a truck of course) i changed the oil and made sure the carb and transmission were in good working order then i test started it. it ran fine except for it taking a little extra gas to get it to start but has developed a tick at idle that sounds to me like it's coming from the head. i'm on my way outside to pull the head and check for bent valves, excess carbon, scars on cylinder wall, ect just wondering if anyone had any other ideas of things i should check after an overheating. i think i may have scarred the cylinder considering i drained about a cup of oil out of the bike which is way less than what was in there when i left this morning but i guess we'll see  :-\

well she's running nice & smooth again i cleaned the valves and re-installed didn't see anything traumatic in there, let it idle for about 15 minutes then changed the oil again then test rode. still getting that tapping sound kinda sounds like an exhaust leak but it makes something like a high pitched buzzing noise while riding ... i called it a night but any ideas would be appreciated i'll be digging back in tomorrow

Try checking the small chrome pipe that sit in front of the valve cover, under the seat. My had a small hole in it and gave a ticking sound. I thought I had a tiny hole in my exhaust but eventually found that. If you put your ear down near the vent under the front of the seat you would hear it coming from behind there without removing any panels, if it is that.
Chaos is my co-pilot.

Did you check the U shaped chrome pipe in front of the valve cover? Think its called the Exhaust Gas Recirculation tube. Mine had a small hole on the bottom I couldnt see, sounded like a small exhaust leak.

i dont know if i have the same problem but everytime i deccelerate theres this fluttering noise almost like a turbo wastegate. hasnt caused any probs (so far)  didnt know if this might also be a zaust leak. she has been bogging down recently aswell and recently died when i stopped for traffic and took 15 mins to start again, hasnt done it since but it did worry me a little.
