how things should work-incomplete pdi
« on: August 21, 2011, 05:00:09 AM »
i am reaching out to those of you who are owners and riders of the 300 downtown,,,,the good news is i received my dt today after picking up at dealer....the bike was suppose to be prepped but took it home and here is some of what i found:

the scooter will not start with the kick stand down....ok i get this as a safety feature  and have seen on some of my other scooters...but on those  it will start/idle but you can't" move it" unless you pull up the kick stand.........what i have here is  a scooter that won't start with the key on if the kick stand is down.....shouldn't you be able to start the scooter with you off of  it and the kick stand down?.....when i pull into the driveway and put the kick stand down all power shuts off////i thought only the kill switch does that ....need to try these procedures on the center stand as well...

i also noticed the efi related "celp indicator light"does not flash on momentarily and shut off as it should.... the battery indicator light flashes on and off as does the oil indicator light but no flashing celp indicator light....whats up with that...possibly related to starting with kick stand down?....

i also note that the scooter should idle at 1600 rpms....mine idles at 2000 rpms...a simple adjustment but not at spec

i also for the life of me can't get the seat to open no matter how many times i try with the ignition key....i follow the owners manual and pull on back of seat but it ??? won't open..i hear a click but nothing happens ..and i am not going to force it.....it must be locked though as the seat unlock indicator light" met-in"...is not lit.

so what am i missing here ..is it me?...looks like i have to get back to the dealer,,,,,

clep will only turn on if the kick stand is up. will start and run with the center stand with no issues.

Idle cold should be a bit high but I haven't seen that high. you could try the TPS reset. Turn the throttle to full open and hold. turn the ignition on and copunt to 8 slowly and then let the throttle go to the idle position and then turn the ignition off. You can now start it normally.

when you hear the click doe the MET-IN light come on? if not and it won't open while you are lightly pulling the seat up and get it to click bring it back for proper adjustment................

I had a problem with my seat also.  It helped to push down on the back of the seat while twisting the key.  The problem goes away after you use over time.

Doesn't look like the dealer went over the scooter details prior to delivery?

thanks but i think...my main issue is not understood.....

simply put....shouldn't the scooter be able to start and idle with the kick stand down....though not be able to move with the kick stand down?

My Yager is dead with the kick stand down.  I believe that is as it should be.

This is the way it it designed. I believe it is in the owners manual. My thought on it being if you start on the side stand it could speed up which would cause it to tip over and be damaged. The odd time I leave it on the side stand, I get on and hold it upright when I start as it will already be warm. If I leave it for more than a few minutes I put it on the main stand.
In the Canadian owners manual page 24 it states "Put your scooter on its center stand and put the side stand up." This is under starting the engine.

racewalker i do see it on pg,24-25....therefore the only way....you really can start it without being on it is to///place it on the center stand with the kick stand up ....i guess i am spoiled.....i prefer the safety feature on the ms3-250...which allows you to start it with the kickstand down,,,,of course the scooter will not move unless you pull up the kickstand...

i prefer because i generally don't use the center stand unless i have work to do on the scooter.....thanks again...

roboscoot,

To iterate what racewalker stated; it's a safety feature.
With the kickstand down, it's implied that the rear tire is on the ground.
All it takes is to throttle up (a little), to make the DT move! And it will easily get off the kickstand! (as I know first hand :( )
The DT has no hand break to prevent it from moving nor is there a limiter for the RPMs.
I'm not sure why you would want it to be running on the kickstand ???
Much safer and stable on the centre stand.

Each bike is unique and will require to get used to.

Enjoy the DT300i (and get the seat checked)

chris ...your right its a personal thing....i prefer not having to get on the scooter to start it up...esp in colder weather...i like it to warm up and than sit on it...be assured it is legal and perfectly safe ..the hyosung ms3-250 and its sister clone the x-speed (united motors)...have this feature ...you can not throttle or engage the trans....with the kick stand down....but i am ok with either set up,,,,,,my major problem at this point is that seat....will let everyone know how this turns out...

Best source I have found.
JENNY
TNT CYCLES

She is in the US but ships here and has good prices. Seems most dealers in Canada can't get them.
