New 250 owner

I've had my 250 xciting 1 month now. Love it! I haven't had so much fun in a long time. I took my Basic Rider Course 2 weeks ago. (It was so cold here in Minnesota I wore my snowpants, winter jacket and footwarmer pads in my boots. It actually snowed.) Highly recommend taking the course. It should be required for all motorcycle licenses. I learned so much about taking care of my bike, self preservation, and greatly improved my riding skills. I have so much confidence now when I ride. Little about my self. This bike is my mid-life crisis. My husband hates it and thinks I'm going to get killed on the thing. I'm 49 and burnt out from taking care of 3 boys - 3, 7, and 15 and working full time and taking care of wifely/homeowner stuff. This bike is me putting myself on my list of important things. You men may not relate but, all the gals will. This bike handles so well. Although it's a heavy piece of machinery I can handle it. I'm 5'4' and a big sized gal. I ordered a viking trunk with a spoiler with LED lights, and integrated brake and turn signal lights in the corners. It even has a back rest for a passenger. I'd like to know about other accessories people have put on their 250's. I'm adding the trunk for storage but mainly to improve my visibility. As you can tell from my bio - I've got little kids who need me around. What about those runner LED lights that shine down on the road? Does any one have those or lights you put on your wheels to improve visibility? I'm so into this scooter . I hate calling it a scooter. I read somewhere that they also are called STM - Step Through Motorcycles. This is really my biggest issue. That it's classified as a scooter. Today I rode the bike to school. I teach 5th grade. My class thinks their teacher rocks! Looking forward to hearing about the LED lights.

Since you're in Minnesota, why don't you attend the big Iron Range Super Scooter Rally in Virginia, MN, June 24-27.  I'm riding my P250 up from South Carolina.  Would love to see you there and have some 250 cc company.  There were only two last year, me and a fellow on a Big Ruckus.

I checked it out online. It was kind of hard to get alot of detailed information about the event. It sounded really interesting and a great way to do some sight seeing my my own state. What city is it based out of and where do people stay? I saw mention of a campground but no name. I'm kind of a cushy hotel person myself, especially when the rides are pretty intense and long. I need a good nights sleep on a bed. I'm still thinking abou† going. I know I will be at the rattlemybones rally (www.rattlemybones.com)in the twin cities in August. That rally has grown substantially in the past few years. I would guess that there will be 250 - 300 scooters of all sizes (50 - 600cc) at that event. I take it the Iron Range Rally is only for 250cc and up. I'm still thinking about it.

There are a few early activities on Wednesday for the early arrivals who don't need to rest or do laundry and it gets underway Wednesday afternoon at the K&B Drive In, around 4, I think.   Some of the activities include a tour of a paper mill and your choice of two mine tours, one on a bus and one underground.   

A daily itinerary is posted, including maps, as well as information on lodging, registration, patches and tee shirts. who's coming from where, and all that other good stuff.

Last year, the fellowship was unbelievable and I expect it to be the same or better this year.  Somewhere around 40 riders are expected, and we break up into smaller groups for the rides.  The food up there is excellent and the locals go all out to make us feel welcome.

Hie thee to the web site, get your name in the pot, your room reserved, and get your patches and tees ordered.  Again, I hope to see you there.  I'll be on a P250 with "geezerbob" on the windshield, so I should be easy to find.

Geezerbob - I will see  you in Virginia, Minnesota! I'm all set. Registered at the Pineview Inn for the whole Rally. I am so pumped! I can't wait to meet you and all the rest of the crew. We 250's will hang tight together and dream of the bigger bikes someday ...............

We should be able to run together okay, but that Big Ruckus simply can't keep up on the highway, something about the way it's geared, I think.  I believe he'll be there again this year. 

I left you a message on the other board about possibly riding together part of the way back.  It's a little west for you, but I'll leave on Sunday and take US 169 through Grand Rapids and Aitken and down to Onamia (actually the casino at Mille Lacs Lake) for a two day visit with daughter and grandbrats before heading back south.  There will probably be some folks from the cities in attendance and you may be able to hook up with them since my route is out of your way.  We can talk about it in person at the rally after you've had a chance to meet some of the people.

That is good to know. I might send my kids to grandma's cabin which is over by Aitken (Crosby) so I could ride back with you and swing over that way. I'll check to see if that works out.  I'll be stopping at Esko on my way up. I've got a sister that lives there and my poor behind will need a change of position by then. I'm looking forward to meeting you in person.

Mmmmm...  X250 GOOOOOOOOOOD!!!

Excellent mileage, performance, braking, accelerating and quality.  She can easily hold 70 mph on freeways (the tachometer is redlined, but the speedo does not redline until 80 mph).  Momma pointed out that wind gusts can play with you a bit, and I concur.  I also readily agree that leaning forward behind the windshield lessens the issue considerably (reducing your vertical profile), to a point that wind is nearly a non-issue.  This is where the 400+ lbs of the scoot is a GOOD thing!!

Just ride safely, no matter what scoot you are in!

Urbestfriend is big on LED's.  Bright without using much power.
My 2 Sources...Superlumination and Virtual Village.    Oh and get yourself the
WOLO or Nautilus Air Horn.  The Chrome model is available again and I just got 2 today.
Superlumination also has a wig wag / steady-on flasher for around $18.00.

I also wired in a shielded (flip up cover) on/off switch that allows me to bypass the kick stand
switch so it'll keep running.   Make sure you're seen.  Has worked successfully for me except
deer must be color blind.
