G'day mate, don't run the engine in the redline, commonly called flogging the engine. If you are not sure if you are in top gear, just try changing up again, if there are no more gears then you are in top. 1 down 4 up does not include neutral. I would suggest ridng the bike gently and enjoying it, that way it will last longer and hopefully give you trouble free ownership.

Next performance mod; pumping the tyres up.

Agreed! Try looking thru the Venox/Quannon posts. Kymco gears there bikes quite hi. There are a few after-market suppliers that have larger engine side gears that will add a few more mph/kph to the bike, and lower the revs.    http://www.kymco.co.uk/kr_sport_125cc_motorbike   The way you describe your shifting it does sound like you are missing a gear tho. Find an experienced rider or a dealer to take it for a ride to be sure
