Help with Kickstand Safety/Short Circuit
« on: September 26, 2011, 03:51:27 PM »
I have a 2009 People S 125 with some kind of short circuit.  When I press the starter I lose all power (lights, clock, etc). I notice if I put the side and center kickstand down and up a few times, the power comes back and it will start right up. Is there a kickstand safety switch? I wasn't able to see it.  Is there something else that could be causing a short that would resolve by raising and lowering the kickstands? Is there an easy fix or do I need a long ride to mechanic?

There is a switch on the sidestand but not the centerstand.  If the switch or it's wire is damaged and grounding to the frame it could cause this.  Find the switch and follow the wire to make sure that it isn't damaged or pinched under something.

Thanks for the quick reply! I couldn't see it when I looked earlier, but now that I know its definitely there, I'll look harder.  If anyone wants to share tips on how/where it it is connected to the side stand, I'd also be grateful to them  - the engineers at Kymco did a nice job of concealing it. (-:

My Yager operator manual indicates the you can bypass the kick stand switch by putting a spare fuse placing a spare fuse in the open fuse holder on the left hand side.  Maybe your People will do it too.
