Kymco agility hard to start

I have a Kymco Agility having difficulty starting the electric starter when cold but starts easily on the kick starter. What could it be? - (Engine running around on the electric starter)

Could be a faulty battery or connections. Check all contacts spray on some WD40 as a good place to start.

Does the starter motor sound like it is straining to crank over engine how old is the scoot/battery could it be time for a new battery, i have only had my agility for a few months so not had to start it in cold weather but i also have a peugeot kisbee which i did have through the last winter with the same gy6 engine and on cold days the battery would not even attempt to crank engine and i would have to kick start, i had a new 4 amp chinese battery fitted under warranty but next day was the same so after a bit more arguing that i was not happy that i could not use the elec starter on a scoot that is brand new they fitted a 6amp gel battery and so far i have not had to use the kick start since, if my agility does the same this winter i will look into getting a 6 amp battery for it aswell but hopefully they use better batterys than peugeot scoots, if i could turn back the clock i would never have got the peugeot as it had many teething problems, my agility has been spot on from day one and i only got the agility as i was so dissapointed with the peugeot it was not my intension to have/run 2 scoots....

Yup, sounds like a lack of volts in the battery issue. I also fitted a gel battery after mine went flat a week after buying the scoot 2nd hand. It hadnt been run or even started over winter by previous owner so even after charging the old battery didnt hold a charge.

If you have jumper leads then try connecting it to a car and try the electric start. Then you will know everything else works in the starting system, if it start up fine then its prob either a bad battery or a charging problem.
Do your light still shine bright? When the voltage regulator/rectifier went on mine my lights were dim and the battery went flat after 4-5 days riding so i had to kickstart and charge my battery with a charger till i got a new regulator/rectifier.

The battery is fairly new but I have today put it to charge so let's see if it helps - I was actually on by mounting alarm which has spent some battery power when testing it:)

If you have a gel battery then you need a gel battery charger, a normal acid battery charger can damage a gel battery.

It is not a gel battery but a lead battery:) I can not really see the point in the gel battery? - It is probably only necessary on motorcycles that have a high pitch level in order not to short out the cells?

Think its to do with charging currents sid, at least that was how it was told to me. My gel battery is sealed and ive seen some from a golf cart swell up while on charge on our lead acid charger.

Maybe wrong but i got a gel charger anyway from my bike shop. Guy there also told me never to use a lead acid charger on gel batteries too.

Yup, think thats it. The gel charger is more of a trickle charge i think and cant overcharge it. I dare say in an emergency you could fire a car charger on for a little bit to boost a flat battery but i wont chance it on mine. Think my gel charger was about the same price as a battery, £17 ish.
