Are you holding one of the brakes, and is the brake light coming on? If no brake light - then try holding the other brake...
When you hit the starter button do you get:
a) nothing at all - check the kill switch on the handlebar because it thinks it is turned off
b) a single tick sound - it thinks your brake isn't on
c) The engine cranks but will not start - it thinks the sidestand is down
