2007 kymco xciting 500 exhaust valves
« on: August 10, 2019, 06:54:44 AM »
I thought I read that kymco had a problem with exhaust valves on the 500 xciting.  Is this a issue and if so at what mileage does it usually occur?
In parts 200S and Grand Vista and my motorcycles 2 CS BMW'S and one GS BMW.

Sold-32 Kymco scooters of various sizes this summer.

Camshaft problems where the exhaust lobe wears out drastically.

I did a search and came up empty, maybe I should try again. I put in exhaust valves will try for xciting 500 camshaft.
Well did a search and came up with my own post.
Does it affect all 500 xciting's mine are 2007 carburetor  models the later 500 xciting  are fuel injection.

Search on here kinda lumpy, does not always make sense. Excell777 has a HUGE thread about a 500 with enormous problems. Probably the worst case scenario, ever! I will try to find a couple linked to the cam problem....

Put "worn cam 500" in the 'search' window and that will get you started with what you want to know!

Thanks crossbolt for your help.  Now the dilemma trade the 2 Kymco's in or run them until they quit.  Both run great with no issues.  The highest mile blue one has 7100 miles the grey one has 6600 miles.  Just took the blue one on my weekly Romeo ride ( Retired Older Motorcyclist Eating Out ) about 35 miles away running about 70 mph .  Both bikes start easy and run well.

I have an 08 carbureted one with about 15,000 miles.  It runs great and I'm not going to worry about the camshaft until it becomes a problem, and I'll probably run it until it dies.  I wonder what the symptoms of a worn cam are.  I sure don't want to take my scooter apart to see what shape my cam's in.

My UXV 500i has over a thousand hours and runs well so no problem in my opinion. I think and have said on other threads that any replacement cam for these engines should be hardness tested before installation. This problem is a QC failure and should have been addressed quickly by Kymco USA. Unfortunately, as per usual, they just "assumed" any replacement cam would be correct. As far as I have seen on this forum the 500 was the only engine size affected. I think most of them were right.

I will probably do the same. Don't have a lot tied up in them money wise and will keep clean synthetic  oil and filter.
