Having trouble locating a problem

I just recently started running into a problem with either the battery not holding a charge or my ac generator is bad. My bike does not start up right away but it takes 2 to 5 times to get it started. I contributed the problem to cold starting but now i dont know what could be the problem.

what size jet are you running.in the cold you may need to come up in size.

Usualy a battery comes to the end of its life in winter it can seem perfectly fine then the cold weather comes and it just gives out and quickly gets worse.....
IF IT IS NOT BROKE DONT FIX IT:)

Have you got clean battery posts and cable terminals?  If this hasn't been done recently, you should do so.  Get the necessary wrenchs/tools for disconnecting and get a small wire brush such as those sold as sets about the size of toothbrushes for brushing the metal clean. 

This is a vital item of maintenence often overlooked.

all so its best to use your kick start more when its cold out.less wear on the battery.

I think the Kymco electrics are pretty poor IMO mechanicals are great but low grade metal for some of the contacts and poor weather proofing in some areas seems to lead to issues. Fine for warmer and drier climates but not so good in cold and wet countries.

I had no problems with electrics on my agility and it's almost on 30.000 km and I'm in southern europe with continental climate, driven all year except when it's ice on the roads.
I just do regular inspection and maintenance(cleaning battery terminals+some grease, it's original propperly formed battery and some WD40 on contacts and handlebar switches).
A guy in service told me ignition/alternator coils behind cooling fan have tendency to malfunction because of dirt and NaCl that's poured on the road in winter and suggested cleaning it with clean water while engine is on idle. I did so and have no problem starting my ag even on -5 degrees celsius. It starts at first starter press when cold just have problem starting it warm when I have to twist throttle a little bit. Running on ngk cr7hix though and plug reading showed healthy tan coloured electrode.

wow you have 30.000 km on your scoot. So tell me how your scoot is running is in good shape yet and working ok and what repair have you done to it.Im asking because I have that many on mine hopeing it well last longer.

that would be sweet. I have all my own maintence also plus the crank shaft was replced. runns good hopeing to get a good life out of her.

I WOULD CHECK YOUR BATTERY FIRST THEN IF ITS NOT CHARGING COULD BE STATOR.

PUT A GOOD CHARGE ON UR BATTERY

Urbestfriend just sold his Agility 50,  which was bought new.
In the 3 years I had it,  I ended up putting 3 batteries in it.

I've had three Kymcos and I'm not sure the original batteries are
the best.   Also this particular bike was always hard to start in cold
weather.   Sometimes once it got running,  it took 5 or more minutes
to warm up enough to go.   In one case,  I thought it was the solenoid,
bought a new one,  but it was the battery.

Take your battery to a shop such as Interstate and they can advise you
of it's condition.
