Ah...sissy mary -- you gots to be right about the 500 hp and the Hiabussa connection.
That explains why I barely touched my throttle and found myself all caught up in
a 75 mph wheelie going down my neighborhood street !  The looks on the dog's faces
were priceless !   8)

Thanks a lot for the welcome and your input.  The idea of changing the angle of the shield
sounds promising.  I've already moved the "buttrest"....got almost an inch more room.
May modify this more.  Have you ever heard of letting a trim shop take it
apart and shave an inch or so off the foam?


I used dragon skin (made for shaping foam for kayak fitting) to cut down the but rest on my Burgman 650 when I had it.  I haven't done that to the X500's because I got enough room by moving it back.  They are easy to mess with.  Don't use a sander on it though.  I've modified a lot of seats and made the mistake of trying my orbital sander on one.  It was working really nicely and then it took a big bite out of the foam.  I thought - hmm, it was working so nice up until then - I'll just take it easy and finish it up.  I don't want to mention how many times I kept thinking that until I gave up and went back to using the dragon skin by hand.   It's really cheap and will shape foam better than anything else.  You can cut the foam with a sawing motion from a breadknife or a hacksaw blade better than a regular blade, and then smooth it with the dragon skin.  For small stuff like that pad I'd just eat my way through it with the dragon skin.

You might try changing your position by sitting on something like a small cushion.  It's easier to add a sheepskin or an airhawk to move you up a bit (and they add comfort) - if going further up helps rather than going further back.  To test if you really want to go back further - take the pad off and ride without it.  I like to try everything that can be undone before something that can't be undone...

If tilting your windscreen more vertical makes it worse - then try angling it more down.  I had terrible wind noise on one bike until I angled it's screen down more just for the heck of it.  It got the blast to be totally below my helmet - and though I had less protection it was nice that it was so much quieter...

Well, I did modify the butt rest bars underneath the seat and got about an inch
out of it....but, ideally would like more.  May try to pull it off altogether and see how it
feels.
I raised the shield to the high position and put a rubber washer about 6-7 mm thick on the
upper bolts to angle it some.  Took a test ride and found that it did help.  I may leave it alone
till warmer weather when I can test it some more.  I'm thinking, though, that I still need a couple
more inches height.  In sitting position...I can see over the shield to a spot around 22 feet.  Wind
still hits the helmet and I prefer to not have the wind noise in my helmet.
So, I'll do another test ride when weather permits.
