Wheeeeeeere did it go??

Okay, so after three months I finally got all the parts I needed after my accident and I am ready to ride.  I do a routine maintenance check on the valve clearance and I guess I did not tighten the top nut down far enough on the rocker arm.  Well I was riding back from the store and My power and speed just go caput!  I open up the valve cover an saw I was missing a nut on the top valve!!!! I shown a light down into where the chain goes and I can't see it back there.  Could it have gone in the exhaust or something weird???  Anyone know how to find it or get a replacement?

I would imagine it has fell down into the oil sump it may be worth draining the oil and hoping it comes out with the flow or it could be in the oil strainer/filter plug....

Just checked both f those spots and I didn't see anything? any other ideas

I cant see where else it could go the rockers/valves are lubricated by oil and the oil is then returned back to the sump, even if it has gone down the camshaft chain guide i would have thought this would return it to the sump along with the oil or it may have got trapped on its way down it should not be possible to have enterd your exhaust only foreign objects that have made it into your engines cylinder could have done this. Only thing i can think of is use a poduct like this one in the link below i got mine from a local pound shop this may allow you to poke it down the chain guide or allow you to poke it through your oil fill and drain holes to see if it picks it up in there....

Will it cause any damage if it stays in there? I could just got to the hardware store and get another nut.

It should be heavy enough to stay on the bottom of the sump assuming thats where it is and it will not make it to the oil pump thanks to the strainer, my only concern would be that where the oil flows from the sump into the filter/strainer it does not sit it in that small gap and restrict the oil flow to the pump if you could get it out i myself would want to, if you have exhausted all attempts and still cant find it yom may have no option but to take a chance. It may not work but can you get hold of a strong magnet and keep rubbing it along the bottom of the sump towards the drain hole and hope it drags it there i know its a long shot but were there's is a will there is a way.....

Still haven't found it. Tried the whole running a magnet through it idea but it didn't work. UGH!!

Maybe it's not in there  Maybe it bounced and rolled somewhere else...

needle in a hay stack. if you used a socket check to see if its not stuck in that. 
or sweep the floor which the scoot was parked then take the maget threw it. good luck let us know if you find it.

I lost my nut this summer, and like you, it seemed to have disappeared, but no luck when i drained oil. My friend's dad who is a mechanic told, that if it didnt come out, it wont hurt anything, and that i shouldnt worry. It has run perfectly untill i crashed with a car and a light signal pole

Yeah, im fine, i had slowed down to 20 km/h, so only the scooter crashed :p So now ive got a new one, a may 2010 model, and i just cant seem to derestrict it :/ Ive put malossi multivar with smooth boss in it, and it still only goes 28 km/h (around 18 mph i guess) :O
