scooter mfg article
« on: March 01, 2012, 11:03:41 PM »
Anyone seen this? I was curious about scooter popularity in Taiwan and this popped up. By the way, I found out too late my Super 8 is made in China and I swear I would not have ever bought it had I known.Sob, sob! Be careful what you buy!

On the good side... Kymco does the quality control at the factory. They have several plants through out Asia. It's more in the quality of the metals/materials used. The SAME engines are run off using materials that Kymco won't approve, and are used in the China Clones.
Kymco is a clone of others itself but uses better SCHTUFF

Not sure I understand the question. The VIN number states what plant if that is what you mean. This was posted here by Rihana

Thanks all,
BooHooo, mine is LC2 (ROC)
The thing that worries me most is  tubing and rubber products. It's possible they are only assembled in ROC !

Sorry Bily. That's where the parts are manufactured. On the plus side... It is a Kymco plant. Not a private company that Kymco simply buys from. The quality is far superior to the China clones that use 1 cent per pound parts. Kymco charges more per scoot because they invest more per scoot. Still a Kymco!

We should make a sticky post on top of the forum list about stuff being produced in China.
EVERYTHING is and MUCH MORE WILL BE produced in China.

Piaggios are made in China too.

very intuitive axy...................anyone who thinks that the the big three don't outsource to china....is just kidding themselves.....the real issue as noted by zombie...is the extent to which kymco maintains quality control over what is manufactured on the mainland......

I think that very soon China will become a symbol for good quality too.

They plan their economy in 5 year increments ("central planning", present in most communist states), and one of the goals for the next 5 years is increase of products' quality.
And, trust me, when they set their mind on something, they do it...

Last year, the world's highest quality laptop came from Chinese factory...

Anyway, quality in brand-factory like Piaggio or Kymco in China is as good (or as bad) as in their native countries.
So, talking about "Chinese Kymcos" is completely irrelevant.

"I think that very soon China will become a symbol for good quality too."
100% Agreed!!! I see China as any "small business". They started off underselling to create a "niche" in the world market, and soon they have become the worlds largest exporter. There are too many reasons to list on how/why they have the rest of the world beat. Unlimited labor force, pride in an upward movement in global economy, a sincere drive to improve the standard of living for all of it's population, ect.
While there are still MANY producers that are manufacturing "sub standard" product... I see this as a foot in the door approach to improving quality over the long run ie: "5 year plan". If you look at the other side of the same coin the US sends billions of sub standard products over seas because they do not meet Federal guidelines for sale in the US. Sadly enough the largest of the US exports is MEDICINE. Out dated, unsafe for US sales, or plain old untested (not FDA) approved.
I am one of the first to advise against buying "cheap China parts" but that is not a blanket statement. If ever there was an argument FOR Communism... China is it. Maybe the US can take a few notes on how to be competitive, and stop the propaganda.
