2005 Super 9 LC - advice needed
« on: March 23, 2012, 03:48:06 AM »
I just acquired a 2005 S9 LC.  It is derestricted already and can hit 50mph on a slight hill.  I am looking to get faster acceleration, and a little more top end.  After spending a few days on this forum, I think I know what I want to do, but figured I would ask for advice also.  I cannot afford to get a new pipe, or rejet due to new pipe, at the moment...so I will save that for later.

In order of what I think I should do:

1) performance variator
2) slider rollers with flat sides to push out more
3) new contra spring

What brand variator do you recommend for this particular scooter?
What weight rollers would be best to match a 200lb rider?
What color (rpm rating) spring would be the best to match everying?

For down the line when I can afford the pipe...which pipe would give me a good overall improvement, top end and acceleration performance?  Does anyone have particular experience with multiple exhausts, and settling on one that works best?  I know I will have to rejet, for the exhaust, and I will probably have a professional do that part.

I do not want to go to a 70cc, but I think I can get a little boost from the first 3 upgrades.

Thoughts, suggestions, comments?

Thanks!

Malkor

3) new contra spring

What brand variator do you recommend for this particular scooter?--------Malossi
What weight rollers would be best to match a 200lb rider?----------------oem rollers might work just fine..they are 8.5g
What color (rpm rating) spring would be the best to match everying?------Malossi blue...1500

..for more top end, a 743-20-30 belt runs well, but you must have unrestricted driven pulleys ...

Does anyone have experience with the Dr. Pulley sliding rollers?
They claim to extend the variator out in a better way...will this enhance performance, or just prevent abnormal wear?

Thanks for responding, wordslinger, I appreciate the specific information, especially on the roller weights.  I will check into the belt.  Any recommendations on best place to get one?

...i'm actually running Ninja Sliders in a cpl of my scoots...

..smooth throughout acceleration..

..never tried Dr Pulleys..Ninjas are about half their price...

..i got my belt at scootertronics.com..itsa Gates Premium..

..a cpl of the local shops around here have that belt size, but the quality is not the same...

..again, check your driven pulleys..i'm suspecting that the 05 has restricted pulleys...my 03 and 04 did...

Thanks!

I have been researching the belt, and it is for a 125cc or 150cc GY6 engine.  I know that Kymcos have a GY6 clone engine, but my scooter is a 50cc.  How did you come to know that this belt for a larger engine would work great in a 50cc driven transmission?  Was it a trial and error thing, or did you hear/read about it somewhere?  I have seen you talk about this belt a bit on the forum, but was never able to figure out your source.  Just curious mostly...

:)

...ive experimented with numerous belt sizes...this one offered not much loss in take-off, which i rectified with the 1500 torque spring..

...and it allowed for more top speed versus oem belt...

..check out my "sister-sister" thread to see how it fits...
