Is my engine getting too hot with 70cc BBK?
« on: April 04, 2012, 08:07:33 PM »
I've been having issues with my People 2t BBK. When I am asking a lot of the engine(mostly WOT) it will cut out and sound like sh**. Then it doesn't want to run right until it cools off completely. When I put the BBK on I put the plastic engine shroud back on with 4 holes in the top for cooling. Is the engine not getting enough fresh air because of that? Has anybody else had cooling issues? I thought it may be my jetting at first. I opened the main 1 size and it seemed to help very slightly. I don't think I'm lean but I could be wrong. I am considering opening it up a little more. I really need to do some plug chops. Just having trouble finding the autolite 4092 I used to get. They don't stock them at my local auto stores anymore.

NGK br8hsa is the cross over. If you can get br9hsa in your area use it. If not you can get them anywhere in Europe/Asia. I order 6 at a time from Jiangwayne as it is what I use in the Z (colder plug). Repair the holes, and seal all of the shroud TIGHT. Zip ties or whatever it takes. SMART guys figured the fan/shroud combo to work. cutting holes eliminates their work. Your description does sound lean so try a NGK br8hs for chops. It fires closer to the head, and reduces piston temp.. That will show the mix better
Ps You can get a HI flow fan almost anywhere for 15 bucks. I Had one but it blew apart in 3 months so I still use the OEM.   You saw my thread about melted pistons right?

"SMART guys figured the fan/shroud combo to work"

No sh**!  :-[

I feel dumb now. I'll cover the holes right away.

There's nothin it worth looking at. Just saying the fan IS important the way they made it.

So run br8hsa for normal use and br8hs for chops?

That's the way I do it. I use 9's tho. The 9hsa isn't available in the US so I don't waste them on chops. Plus the hs sits closer to the head and will read leaner so it is a better gauge. When you go back to the hsa you will be just SLIGHTLY richer looking which is a GOOD thing
